Edward Yam (Edward Chun Ho Yam) is a professional poker player from Hong Kong who is widely recognized as one of the most active and consistent grinders on the Asian circuit. He currently holds the record for the most live tournament cashes in Hong Kong poker history.
Career Earnings & Biggest Results
With over $1.3 million in total live earnings (according to The Hendon Mob), Edward Yam ranks 20th on the Hong Kong All Time Money List. However, his most impressive statistic is his volume; he ranks 1st on the Hong Kong Number of Cashes list, reflecting an incredible work rate and consistency across events of all buy-in levels.
Yam enjoyed a prolific 2025 season, capturing titles and making numerous final tables. In July 2025, he won the High Roller event at the Taiwan Millions Tournament (TMT) in Taipei, topping the field to earn NT$ 422,700 (~$13,000).
He maintained this momentum late into the year at the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Championship Taipei in November 2025. During this series, he made multiple final tables, including a 5th place finish in the Turbo High Roller for NT$ 191,100 (~$6,090) and a 5th place finish in the Pot Limit Courchevel event, showcasing his versatility in mixed games.
His career-best live score remains $128,848, achieved in 2019 when he finished as the runner-up in the APPT Manila National event.
Biography & Poker Background
Representing Hong Kong, Edward Yam is a fixture at nearly every major poker festival in Asia. He is particularly dominant in Taiwan, where he regularly competes at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP) club, and in Manila, Philippines.
Yam’s reputation is built on his “grinder” mentality. Unlike players who strictly select Main Events or High Rollers, Yam competes in a vast array of tournaments during a series—from “Hyper Turbos” and “Bounty” events to Mixed Games like Big O and Courchevel. This approach has allowed him to amass hundreds of live cashes, surpassing all other Hong Kong compatriots in frequency of in-the-money finishes.
Play Style & Strategy
Edward Yam’s results highlight an incredibly versatile skill set. While proficient in standard No Limit Hold’em, he is also a dangerous opponent in Mixed Games and Pot Limit Omaha variants.
His frequent deep runs in Turbo and Hyper Turbo events suggest a mastery of short-stack mathematics and high-variance spots, allowing him to accumulate POY (Player of the Year) points rapidly. In 2025, he was ranked in the top 20 of the Global Poker Index (GPI) for Hong Kong, a testament to his sustained activity and success.

Edward Chun Ho Yam is one of Hong Kong‘s best known tournament players, and currently sits 22nd on Hong Kong’s all-time cashes list with $519,000 in live cashes. He made himself a live tournament legend in 2019 when he broke the world record for most live cashes in a calendar year by notching well over two hundred ITM finishes.
Online Poker
In August 2021, Yam took down the $1,050 Sunday High Roller MAIN EVENT for $165,436 on Natural8 – GGNetwork. This was a WSOP Online side event.
Edward Yam is the model of consistency and perseverance, with vast numbers of cashes through the last two years and not one of them in the six-figure category. That’s not to say that he only collects small cashes however, as he has many tournament victories to his name.
