Taiwan Millions Tournament: Insights and Highlights
Taiwan Millions Tournament (TMT) is a home-grown live poker tournament in Taiwan introduced by the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association. It was first held in 2017 as a low-stakes competition to give local players an opportunity to participate in a large scale event and helping to introduce new poker enthusiasts to the game of poker.
The tournament features an affordable buy-in of NTD 9,000 (~USD $280) and has grown significantly in terms of participation numbers throughout the years. When it was first held in the Zhongli branch of CTP Club, the tournament attracted a total of 311 entries. During the 8th edition in 2020, it reached four figures for the first time and has kept on growing after moving locations to the Asia Poker Arena in Taipei City.
New heights were reached with nearly 4,000 entries in the 15th edition in 2024, but the participation then exploded during the next installment. For the first time in history, the tournament featured a guarantee of USD 1 Million and it was rewarded with a 6,953 strong field to generate a prize pool of NTD 51,594,800 (~US$1,572,390). It was the largest live poker event in the history of Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region.
