WSOP Circuit returns to The Star Sydney
The WSOP Circuit tour will once again be back at The Star Casino in 2017, with events beginning on November 28th and ending on December 18th. Having already hosted an excellent series at the same location last year, this year will see 13 events taking place across a 21-day period.
As well as offering smaller events and mixed games, the series will also include major tournaments such as the AU$2,200 buy-in Main Event, which boasts a $2 million guarantee. There will also be a AU$20,000 buy-in High Roller, and an opening event which guarantees AU$500,000.
Two players from the Sydney circuit – the Main Event winner and the overall casino champion –will also win a seat in the 2018 WSOP Global Casino Championship based on their performances across 11 events. The tournament has a US$1 million prize pool.
When asked about the upcoming series, Damian Quayle who is Chief Operating Officer of Gaming at The Star said: “We are excited to be the only Australian host of the World Series of Poker Circuit and look forward to another thrilling tournament series in our world-class poker room. Our facilities offer the perfect stage for the renowned series as we welcome local and international visitors to see some of the biggest players in the world in action this summer”.

Highlights of last year
Last year saw the WSOP Circuit putting on an excellent series at The Star, with highlights including Joel Dodds besting a field of 1,097 runners to win the Main Event. Among the other exciting stories too emerge from last year were those of Christine Hia and George Psarras. Both players had an outstanding series, picking up two WSOP Circuit titles along the way. Last year saw strong participation numbers through the series, and with the success of last year’s series and the popularity of the venue, there is every reason to believe that this may be the case again this year.

Summer prelude:theStar Poker Sydney Championships
The WSOP Circuit will certainly be one of the headline events being hosted at The Star this year, but for those looking to check out the venue and warm up their live tournament skills, the Star Poker Sydney Championships are a good option. Set to take place between July 18th and August 7th, there will be several events with various buy ins, including a $20,000 High Roller, and the guaranteed prize pools for the series have almost doubled compared to the previous year.
