WPT Vietnam Opener draws 355 entries, 45 players to battle for Prime Championship package led by Tran Duc Steve
The first round of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Vietnam Opener Event logged in a total of 355 entries over three starting days with 45 players advancing to the money round. Bagging up the overall big stack was Day 1C leader Tran Duc Steve of 418,000 (104 bb), trailed by Day 1B leader Daniel Tighe with 99 bb. The players now enter the second stage of the race where the first WPT Prime Championship package is up for grabs!

Day 1B recap
Day 1B was the largest heat with 182 runners taking to the felt at Crown Poker Club in Hanoi, Vietnam. Many noteworthy players in the field and advanced to the next round, among them were Australia’s Anthony Cierco, Taiwan’s Yeh Hung Wei, India’s Amit Kaushik, and locals Le Van Duc, Nguyen Nang Quang, Ha Van Thien.
Closing the heat with the largest stack was Ireland’s Daniel Tighe who knocked out two players before the bubble round. His first takedown was a big one with dominating to add 30 bb to his stack. The next was the pre-bubble bust with button attempting to steal by shoving nearly 20 bb with only to fall to Tighe’s on a Ten-high board.
The bubble round ran 18 hands before Ha Van Thien knocked out short stacked Chan Chin Hei who was all in for 1.5 bb with . Chan missed the board completely, Ha shipped it with mid pair.
Day 1C recap
The last flight registered 117 entries which was more than enough to boost the prize pool to over VN₫ 3.44 Billion. Tran Duc Steve raced up an enormous 418,000 to send him to the top of the overall Day 2 counts. Day 1C ended with Nguyen Huu Vinh risking his last 7 bb with only to be dominated out of the running by Ding Pin with .

WPT Vietnam Passport to the World Championship features 32 trophy events with the festival headliner Main Event running from October 12 to 16 2023. It is highlighted by a VN₫ 12,000,000,000 (~US$ 492,000) guarantee.
