WPT Prime Taiwan Returns to CTP in January 2027; Second Event Set for August
The World Poker Tour (WPT) is heading back to Taiwan in early 2027, with WPT Prime Taiwan confirmed for January 2-11 at CTP Asia Poker Arena in Taipei.
Presented by PokerTalk and sponsored by WPT Global, the January festival will be headlined by the TWD 35,000 WPT Prime Taiwan Championship, which carries a TWD 30 million (~USD 1 million) guaranteed prize pool.
WPT has also confirmed a second Special WPT event in Taiwan from August 12-23, 2027, giving players two dates to mark down for the coming year. The name and tournament format for the August festival will be announced at a later date.
WPT Prime Taiwan Returns to CTP Asia Poker Arena

The January festival brings WPT Prime Taiwan back to familiar territory at CTP Asia Poker Arena in Taipei's Zhongshan District.
Operated by the Chinese Texas Hold'em Poker Association, CTP has become a long-standing host for major international poker festivals and has played an important role in the growth of Taiwan's live tournament scene.
CTP founder Hsing "David" Tai welcomed the tour's return:
"We are delighted to welcome WPT back to Taiwan. The tremendous support from Taiwanese players and players from around the world has helped make WPT Prime Taiwan a special event for us. We look forward to welcoming everyone to enjoy great poker, food and culture, and the warmth of Taiwanese hospitality."
WPT Prime Taiwan has already produced some of the tour's largest fields in the region. In 2024, the WPT Prime Taiwan Championship attracted 1,666 entries, setting a record at the time for a WPT Prime Championship outside Las Vegas.
The 2025 WPT Prime Taiwan returned to the same venue, where Hyundong Lee topped the 1,470-entry Championship field to claim the title.
TWD 30 Million Championship Headlines January Festival

The centerpiece of the January return will be the WPT Prime Taiwan Championship, running from January 7-11.
Entry is set at TWD 35,000 (~USD 1,100), with a TWD 30 million (~USD 1 million) guarantee
The Championship takes place during the closing five days of the full January 2-11 festival, although the complete daily tournament schedule has not yet been released.
WPT and CTP will announce the final schedule, registration guidance and further venue information ahead of the festival.
For players planning a trip to Taipei, Somuchpoker's CTP Asia Poker Arena guide has further information on the venue, while the Taiwan poker guide covers the wider live poker scene.
WPT Global Satellites and Packages Coming

As the official sponsor of the January festival, WPT Global will also give players opportunities to qualify online for WPT Prime Taiwan.
Online satellites are planned across a range of buy-ins, including lower-cost qualifiers, with players able to win live packages for the January festival at CTP Asia Poker Arena.
WPT Global also plans additional player incentives, promotions and on-site activities during the festival.
Exact satellite dates, buy-ins, package contents and eligibility requirements have not yet been announced and will be released closer to the event.
Second WPT Taiwan Festival Confirmed for August 2027

January will not be WPT's only visit to Taiwan in 2027.
A second Special WPT event has already been scheduled at CTP Asia Poker Arena for August 12-23, 2027.
For now, WPT has confirmed only the dates and location. The event name and tournament format will be revealed later, with further details expected as the 2027 season develops.
The two confirmed festivals extend WPT's relationship with CTP and ensure Taipei will once again feature prominently on the Asian poker calendar next year.
Players can read the official WPT announcement for the original release, with Somuchpoker set to bring further details once the full January schedule, satellites and package information are announced.
