WPT Australia 2026 Day 3 Recap: Darren Rees Tops Day 1c as Taryn Sabine-Shaw Wins Triple Temptation

WPT Australia 2026 continued at The Star Sydney on Saturday, September 12, with the final starting flight of the AUD 1,150 Australian Poker Cup bringing the opening stages of the festival’s first major event to a close.

Day 1c was the largest flight of the three, attracting 190 entries and taking the Australian Poker Cup to 441 entries and a prize pool of AUD 441,000, while elsewhere, Taryn Sabine-Shaw denied Thomas Lee of his second title of the series in the AUD 575 Triple Temptation.

Darren Rees Tops Australian Poker Cup Day 1c

The third and final starting flight of the Australian Poker Cup drew 190 entries, with 45 players making it through the 16 levels of play.

Darren Rees finished at the top of the Day 1c counts after bagging 552,000, while Frederick Williams also finished among the leading stacks with 453,000.

Eddy Hosni remains the overall Australian Poker Cup chip leader after amassing 731,000 during Day 1a, and starts in the top spot of the final 98. Ricardo Bono sits second with 644,000, while Rees enters Day 2 third overall with 552,000.

Australian Poker Cup Day 2 Top Ten Chip Counts

With only 56 places set to be paid, a large portion of the returning field will still leave empty-handed. Those who reach the money will secure at least AUD 2,000, while the eventual champion will collect the AUD 83,740 top prize, along with an AUD 1,500 WPT Prime Championship seat for the event at The Wynn, Las Vegas, in December.

Taryn Sabine-Shaw Wins WPT Australia Triple Temptation

The third trophy of WPT Australia 2026 was claimed by Sabine-Shaw, who took down the AUD 575 Triple Temptation – One Day Event.

Sabine-Shaw triumphed in a 49-entry field to collect AUD 8,009 from the AUD 24,500 prize pool, denying Lee his second trophy of the series in the process.

Lee, who won the True Blue Turbo on the opening day of the festival, finished runner-up for AUD 5,341, while Harrison Ingles rounded out the podium in third place for AUD 3,561.

In the final hand of the tournament, Sabine-Shaw sealed the title after Lee raised the button to 60,000 and she called from the big blind. On the J♠ 8♠ 7♦ flop, Sabine-Shaw was first to act and moved all-in. Lee tank-called for his remaining 450,000, giving Sabine-Shaw a chance at glory.

Lee held A♦ T♦ for ace-high, against Sabine-Shaw’s J♦ 9♣ for top pair. The T♥ turn gave Sabine-Shaw a straight, and Lee could only chop the pot. However, the 4♦ river was a big brick, meaning the pot and the title went to Sabine-Shaw.

WPT Australia 2026 Day 4 Schedule

The Australian Poker Cup takes center stage on Sunday, September 13, with Day 2 getting underway at 12:30 p.m. inside The Star Sydney .

A total of 98 players will return from the three starting flights, where play resumes at Level 17 with blinds of 4,000/8,000 and an 8,000 big blind ante, with levels increasing to 45 minutes in length.

Day 2 will continue until the final table is reached or the completion of Level 27, whichever comes first, with Somuchpoker providing live tournament updates directly from the floor throughout the day.

The day’s action begins earlier at 10:30 a.m. with the AUD 575 20/20/20 – One Day Event, which features a 20,000 starting stack and 20-minute levels.

Later in the afternoon, the AUD 1,300 Aussie Monster Stack gets underway at 2:30 p.m., with players receiving a 40,000 starting stack and playing 30-minute levels.
