Joshua Guo Tops Australian Poker Cup Day 1b; Christopheros Winters Wins First WPT Title

Another day at  WPT Australia 2026 was put in the books in the wonderful surroundings of The Star Sydney on Friday, September 11, with Day 1b of the AUD 1,150 Australian Poker Cup again providing the main attraction of the day.

The second starting flight pushed the event to 251 entries across the opening two flights, with one more flight still to play.  Elsewhere, deep into the early hours of the morning, the second trophy of the WPT Australia  2026 festival was also awarded as Christopheros Winters won the AUD 500 Bondi Wave Breaker Freezeout.

Joshua Guo Tops Australian Poker Cup Day 1b Counts

Day 1b of the Australian Poker Cup attracted 144 entries, with 34 players making it through the 16 levels of play and securing their places in Day 2 on Sunday, September 13.

Joshua Guo emerged as the Day 1b chip leader with 448,000, just a few chips ahead of Stephane Fontes on 445,000, while Haoyan Gu rounded out the top three with 385,000.

Ardi Jaya finished fourth with 377,000, helped massively by spiking a one-outer on the river to hit quads during the first level of the day. He was closely followed by Yin Lai on 375,000 and Nicholas Bovey on 370,000.

Also making it through was the United States’ Hunter Cichy , who has likely traveled the furthest to be part of WPT Australia, and was happy to answer some of Somuchpoker‘s questions during the dinner break.

Despite Guo topping the second flight, Eddy Hosni remains the overall Australian Poker Cup chip leader after bagging 731,000 during Day 1A.

Australian Poker Cup Day 1b Top Ten Chip Counts

The 34 Day 1b survivors join the 19 players who advanced from Day 1A, with 53 players now guaranteed a place in Day 2. The final starting flight, Day 1C, gets underway on Saturday, September 12, before the surviving field combines on Sunday, September 13, where the final prize pool and payouts will be announced.

Christopheros Winters Wins Second WPT Australia 2026 Trophy

The second trophy of WPT Australia 2026 was claimed by Winters, who took down the AUD 500 Bondi Wave Breaker Freezeout – One Day Event.

Winters topped a 79-entry field to collect AUD 9,982 from the AUD 34,760 prize pool, with the top 12 players making the money.

He defeated Ashish Patil heads-up for the title, with Patil collecting AUD 6,656, while Guangyan Yu rounded out the podium in third place for AUD 4,513.

WPT Australia 2026 Day 3 Schedule

The Australian Poker Cup reaches its third and final starting flight on Saturday, September 12, with Day 1c getting underway at 12:30 p.m.

The flight follows the same structure as the previous two, with players receiving a 50,000 starting stack and playing 16 levels of 30 minutes.

The available time to register remains open until the start of Level 13, with unlimited re-entries available throughout, giving players one final opportunity to secure their place in the Day 2 field.

Before that, the day’s action has already been underway since 10:30 a.m. with the AUD 575 Triple Temptation – One Day Event, which features a 25,000 starting stack, double re-entry, and another WPT Australia 2026 trophy up for grabs.
