As one of the iconic PokerStars events and trophy in Asia history, the event saw a total of 145 entries making the PHP 70,000 (~US$ 1,200) buy-in for a chance at the PHP 25,000,000 (~US$ 428,300) guarantee. Another key event in the series calendar was the APPT One Million Challenge Championship, which had a stiff buy-in of PHP 1,000,000 (~US$ 17,100). Not for everyone, this was the second installment with Vamerdino Magsakay as the first ever champion last summer.

The tournament kicked off with six entries building a prize pool of PHP 5,645,400 (~US$ 96,700). The 1,000,000 starting stack gave player plenty of wiggle room that by night’s end, there was only one bust out, Vincent Huang from Australia. The five players still in contention decided to continue the tournament the next day in the hopes that more players would register.
