GOP Manila Main Event Could Face Overlay Approaching PHP 10 Million

The PHP 30,000,000 guarantee on the GOP Manila  Main Event is looking increasingly unlikely to be covered by player contributions alone, with the tournament currently tracking well below the pace needed to hit that number in the Philippines .

Flights A and B have combined for 89 entries, generating PHP 6,675,000 toward the prize pool. Of the PHP 82,500 total entry cost, PHP 75,000 goes into the prize pool while the remaining PHP 7,500 covers the tournament fee. Founder Lloyd Fontillas estimates the event could finish with an overlay approaching PHP 10,000,000 (roughly USD 162,000), though the final figure will depend on how the three remaining starting flights perform.

The Overlay Math

At PHP 75,000 per entry going toward the prize pool, the Main Event needs 400 total entries to fully cover the PHP 30,000,000 guarantee through player contributions alone. A field of around 267 entries would generate PHP 20,025,000, leaving GOP to make up the remaining PHP 9,975,000 – the basis for the projected overlay figure. With 89 entries already on the books, roughly 178 more would be needed across the rest of the flights to land at that number.

The projection isn’t set in stone. Multi-flight events often see a large share of their field arrive in the later flights, especially from players re-entering after an early elimination or those flying in from overseas. A late surge in registration could shrink the overlay significantly, or erase it altogether.

Three Flights Remain

One starting flight runs today, with two more scheduled for tomorrow at City of Dreams Manila , located near Ninoy Aquino International Airport. That leaves a window for players from regional markets including Taiwan , South Korea , Japan , Hong Kong , Thailand , and Vietnam to still make the trip and register.

Why the Numbers Matter

An overlay adds money to the prize pool without requiring a matching increase in player contributions, which can create real value for anyone entering before the final field size is known.

If the event does finish around 267 entries, for example, players would be contributing just over PHP 20,000,000 while competing for the full PHP 30,000,000 guarantee. That value is conditional, though – it only holds if the remaining flights fail to generate enough entries to close the gap on their own.
