Six dates revealed by World Poker Tour for Asia Pacific – mark them down!
As the year 2024 approaches, the World Poker Tour (WPT) has taken the lead by announcing its lineup of events in the Asia Pacific region. Posted on WPT Live Events Specialist Danny McDonagh‘s Facebook page, WPT has solidified four event stops, with two of them, both in Australia, still awaiting final approval. Poker players can confidently mark their calendars for these forthcoming events, as they are expected to be even more lucrative and exciting than ever before.
WPT Cambodia – January 17 to 30, 2024
For the first time in history, the WPT brings its Main Tour to Cambodia! In partnership with boutique gaming company Connaissance Management, the inaugural festival kicks off the brand’s calendar year in Asia with games running from January 17 to 30 at world class NagaWorld Integrated Resorts in capital city Phnom Penh. This will be the WPT’s fourth visit to this location. At each past visit, the event produced record numbers and the largest gathering of international players.
Since the announcement, anticipation has been brewing as players look forward to the event lineup. While full details have yet to be released, which will be in about a week, one thing is certain, it will be the richest festival by the brand in Asia to date. For the first time, the WPT will be guaranteeing seven figures with the WPT Cambodia Championship backed by US$ 1,000,000. That event runs January 25 to 29, 2024.
WPT Prime Gold Coast and WPT Australia
Just as in the current year, the WPT is set to return to Australia hosting two festivals. The first Prime festival is confirmed to take place at The Star Gold Coast while WPT Australia does not reveal which Star property will host the festival. Although official confirmation is pending, players can confidently mark these dates on their calendars as they are likely to be consistent with the schedules posted.
Up first is WPT Prime Gold Coast which is slated for April 10 to 23. This event made its Australia debut in 2021 then returned this year with the turnout boosted by 25% from 896 entries to a record 1,224 for a prize pool of A$ 2.2 Million (~~US$ 1.49 Million). Players can expect the upcoming schedule to bring more action to the tables.
Looking ahead in the year, the highly anticipated WPT Australia is scheduled for September 5 to 25. The mere mention of these dates reveals a whopping three-week festival on the horizon – an entire week longer than previous. This marks the WPT’s third Main Tour appearance in Australia and the third time the Mike Sexton Champions Cup will be back in the Asia Pacific region.
In 2022, David Tang became the first WPT Australia winner to have his name etched on the Mike Sexton Champions Cup. This year, Richard Lee became the second after outlasting the 600-entry field to win an enormous A$ 854.9K (~US$ 550.8K). To date, WPT Australia holds the WPT Asia Pacific record prize pool of A$ 4.47 Million (~US$ 2.88 Million).

WPT Prime Vietnam and WPT Vietnam Passport to the World Championship
WPT’s continued success in Vietnam reached even greater heights this year as it breached a million US dollars, the first by a brand in the country other than the Triton SHR series. WPT returned in October for a special event that awarded packages to the upcoming WPT World Championship.
Next year, the WPT follows the same schedule. The brand returns to Hanoi, Vietnam for two events at the Crown Poker Club. The first is WPT Prime Vietnam which is scheduled for May 14 to 27. To cap its Asia Pacific roster is WPT Vietnam – Passport to the World Championship, slated for October 4 to 14.
WPT Prime Taiwan – August 6 to 19, 2024
The first confirmed Asia dates was WPT Prime Taiwan which was announced in August during this year’s event. The brand returns exactly one year later, August 6 to 19, for a two-week festivalat the Asia Poker Arena in Taipei City, Taiwan. WPT Prime Taiwan has undoubtedly established itself as the most sought after in the region, as attested by the record turnout of 1,359 entries, marking the largest WPT Prime to date.
Season XXI WPT World Championship – November 29 to December 23, 2023
While WPT presents a very exciting 2024 Asia Pacific lineup, the current year is not yet over. The thrill continues with the brand’s grandest event coming up at the end of this month – the WPT World Championship featuring a mind-blowing US$ 40 Million guarantee! When the announcement was made, WPT CEO, Adam Pliskasaid,
“The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas is poised to reach new heights and we wanted to match that expectation with a guarantee that no live poker tournament has ever seen before. The journey to December begins now, and we plan on giving players another unforgettable experience at Wynn Las Vegas.”
WPT World Championship festival runs from November 29 to December 23 at Wynn Las Vegas featuring numerous events backed by generous guarantees. Not only was the WPT World Championship boosted, other events as well. The WPT Prime Championship now boasts a US$ 5,000,000 guaranteed prize pool, a substantial $3M increase from last year. The $3K buy in No Limit Hold’em has also seen a significant rise, soaring from half a million guarantee to a massive $3,000,000.
