Redentor Edoc Overcomes Swings To Be Crowned APPT Warm Up Main Event Champion
After a heads up deal, Philippines’ Redentor Edoc was crowned champion of the 2024 APPT Warm Up Main Event. Edoc walked away with a career high payout of PHP 1,455,000 (~$24,908) and his first ever PokerStars spadie.
The 2024 APPT Warm Up Main Event ran from July 10 to 14 at the PokerStars LIVE hub in Okada Manila, Philippines. Across the four flights, 682 entered to easily crush the guarantee and replaced by a richer PHP 9,605,651 (~USD 164,470) prize pool. With each flight playing down to ITM, 105 players advanced to Day 2 then bagged up once the final 9 was reached.
Returning to action on the final day, the pack was led in by Japan’s Kurushima Hiroya while Edoc was wedged in the middle. Right out of the gate, Edoc ran hot to quickly climb the ranks and claim the top spot where he parked for some time. However, two levels later, Edoc’s stack began to fluctuate as Swiss player Oleg Mordassov emerged as the new leader.
A regular on the Asian poker circuit, Mordassov was a force to be reckoned with as he surged ahead, creating a significant gap between himself and his closest contender. But, like Edoc, his lead didn’t last. Mordassov’s stack took a huge hit after losing a few showdowns, while Edoc regained control by doubling up through Wei Chen Lin and eliminating USA’s Kyle Anderson. Mordassov was eliminated in 4th place on a double bust by Ron Ryan Mesina.
Dwon to two players, instead of playing it out, Mesina and Edoc quickly struck an ICM deal and the bigger stacked Edoc was crowned champion. In addition to the hefty top prize, both players also received a package to the APT Manila Main Event valued at PHP 120,000.
