The most crucial day at PokerStars LIVE APPT Manila Championship brought 139 players back to center stage for APPT Championship Day 2. Taking place at Okada Manila in Manila, Philippines, the day opened with one last hour to sign up. At the close, a total of 416 ponied up the PHP 165,000 (~US$ 2,880) buy in for a prize pool of PHP 59,922,720, equivalent to a seven figure USD prize pool of around ~$1,028,270.

The impressive turnout showcased the resounding success of this event’s inaugural staging. The next agenda then for players was to secure a spot in the money round where only 63 were certain to make the grade. It was also revealed that the eventual champion would earn a jaw dropping PHP 11,610,000 (~US$ 199,100). Here are the highlights.

Entering APPT Championship Day 2, many well known players were scattered throughout the field and by the seventh hour of play, quite a number had missed the mark. Falling the hardest was local player Alvir Inocentes who thought top pair was best only to fall to Charles Pansoy’s top two pair.

With the money intact and another three hours to play before bagging time, it was a slugfest to rack up. In the aftermath, it became the John Perry show as the Australian was the first to reach seven figures in his chip stack and never relinquished. Second ranked Vietnam’s Ngo Hieu hovered around with a slightly lower stack. Perry is on a heater at the ongoing series with four cashes including a victory at the High Roller Knockout.

Perry brings a stack 1,785,000 (112 bb), followed by Ngo’s 1,395,000 (87 bb). American Joey Weissman currently sits at third with 1,330,000 (83 bb) – most of which came from the crippling of Filipino-American Moses Saquing who became the last player eliminated at Day 2’s conclusion.

Day 2 bagged up with 28 players remaining. Among them were APPT / Red Dragon champion Florencio Campomanes with 28 bb, the day’s entering chip leader Lester Edoc with a healthy stack of 40 bb, APPT champion Yuanning Wu with 64 bb, and higher up the rung is the most decorated player in the field, Michael Soyza, with 68 bb.

The action resumes on Saturday, October 26 at 12NN (UCT+8) when the action plays down to the last six players. Everyone at this point is now guaranteed PHP 355,000 (~US$ 6,075).
