Cards for a Cause: WPT Alpha8 for One Drop in Jeju Island, Korea from July 21 to 22
In the gorgeous setting of Jeju Island, the World Poker Tour (WPT) brings together poker players and philanthropists, uniting them in a shared mission to make a difference.
Taking place on July 21 to 22 is the WPT Alpha8 for One Drop event at Jeju Shinhwa World Landing Casino. The special tournament aims to raise funds for the One Drop Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing sustainable solutions and support to communities in need of clean water.
With a buy-in of KR₩ 170 Million (~USD 133,930), players make a meaningful impact while competing for substantial cash prizes. This follows the recently concluded WPT Alpha8 for One Drop event in Las Vegas where USD 315,000 was raised and Jonathan Jaffe triumphed for USD 1.5 Million.
In an interview with One Drop Foundation CEO and President, Alex Meunier, he expressed the incredible synergy between the foundation and the WPT. He emphasized their shared vision of hosting events globally, with the upcoming tournament in Korea serving as a prime example.
“That’s the beauty of the partnership with the World Poker Tour they have a global footprint, they are present in several countries. Our goal is to be able to do a tournament everywhere where they are, and they are open to listening to us when we say that would be great to do one in Asia. We are doing one in Korea on July 21 and 22. That’s the second Alpha8 event this year and we are discussing the program for 2024 and the years after. Our goal is to multiply those events so we can raise a lot of money. The World Poker Tour is really backing One Drop and it is a big help.”
Presently, the One Drop Foundation is actively engaged in several projects around the world. In Asia, they have three ongoing projects in India.
