APT Phu Quoc 2024: Sergei Korzhenko Stacks the Highest Across Main Event Flight B; Daniil Shalaev Takes Down Another
Right on its halfway mark, APT Phu Quoc 2024 continues to shine at the Corona Resort & Casino, Phu Quoc, with its Main Event qualifying rounds underway. The second of four flights recently concluded with another 66 survivors advancing to Day 2, led by Russia’s Sergei Korzhenko. Two more heats are set to play through with registration remaining open just before the start of Day 2 on Thursday, November 14th. Across the side events, Daniil Shalaev captured another APT victory over this season’s games, rising to be the series’ sole multi-winner to date.
APT Main Event Flight B Recap
The second APT Main Event starting round, Flight B, drew in a slightly larger field of 204 entries (156 unique), matching its initial turnout of 189 entries. Another ten levels of play ran through, and left only 66 runners holding on to their tournament lives by the end of the evening. Sergei Korzhenko found himself at the summit of the leaderboard, bringing in a chip count of 372,300 to top the current overall order.
Seasoned local Nang Quang Nguyen likewise engaged actively in battle throughout the day, and bagged a mighty 323,000 to take the second spot. China’s Kaihua Huang rounds up the top three counts, and joins the 300K list along with Flight A chip leader Deepankur Gupta, which should be just under 190 big blinds to start the Day 2 rounds.
International runners Ronald Haverkamp (260,700), and Natural8 ambassador Nevan Chang (219,400) likewise had a fruitful day having bagged top stacks, accompanied by Asian notables Phanlert Sukonthachartnant (171,300), The Naing (139,500), Yita Choong (121,000), and series winners Le Thanh Tung (104,600), and Krisada Pinthakasetrin (101,000). Other decorated players who survived the Day 1 games include bracelet winner Georgios Skarparis (97,100), Dinh Tien Thanh (72,200), and David Erquiaga (43,800).

Daniil Shalaev Rises as First Multi-Series Winner
Daniil Shalaev once again showcased his Omaha skills on the felt with another victory at the Big “O” Masters – PL Omaha Hi-Lo – 5 Card event. Shalaev previously won the opening day’s PL Omaha Hi-Lo – 5 Card (Big O), but this time banked a bigger VND 125,710,000 (~USD 4,970) in winnings for his second triumph. The Russian enthusiast similarly captured two APT titles over last week’s APT Manila games, marking his recent feat to be a career fourth title, and a highly profitable first appearance across the Southeast Asian scene.
