APT Phu Quoc 2024 Main Event Sees Jinlong Hu in the Lead into Day 2

The APT Phu Quoc 2024 festivities continue to be in the spotlight with its Main Event action heating up at the Corona Resort & Casino, Phu Quoc. All four starting flights have played through, and drew in a combined 753 entries over the past three days. Today’s Day 2 registration added 42 more entries just before its start, bringing up the final count to 795, leaving VND 25,000,000,000 (~USD 989,355) in prizes on the table. China’s Jinlong Hu leads the Day 2 charge, having topped Flight C to come in first across the overall counts. 

Over at the side events, India’s Avneesh Munjal’s newfound APT success at the High Roller – Double Stack earned him a VND 1,541,930,000 (~USD 60,945) score, while local runner Bui Xuan Truong captured a second series victory at yesterday’s Super Hyper Turbo.

A combined 292 survivors headed back to the tournament scene across the four starting flights, with bracelet winner Jinlong Hu leading the pack to start the games. Hu bagged a massive 476,600 chip count across Flight C’s 225-entry field, and stands to be one of two runners to crack the 400K mark. Local runner Do Tien Vu trails just two big blinds behind with 447,800, and likewise kicked off the Day 2 battle comfortably. Joining the 92-qualifier list are international notables Taiwan’s Li Ta Hsu (185,300), and Fang Puyen (181,100), China’s Chi Zhang (158,600), and Li Ma (55,000), along with APT High Roller champion Nelson Dong (74,100).

The final flight on schedule ran similarly faster paced 30/45 minute blinds, and added another 135 entries to the tally with only 64 players advancing through following ten levels of play. China’s Shi Bei bagged the lead with 298,600, yet sits just eighth in rank across the overall pecking order. Other notables making their return are Austria’s Ryan Hong (151,200), Vietnamese crushers Van Sang Nguyen (129,600), and Pham Bao (82,900), China’s Mingcong Chen (71,000), and Xiaosheng Zheng (67,900), Malaysia’s William Teoh (66,700), and USA’s Peter Kiem (65,200).

The money is expected to trickle in today as the payouts were shortly revealed once registration closed, with mincash set at VND 56,250,000 (~USD 2,225), and the coveted top prize listing VND 4,710,000,000 (~USD 186,390). Action is set to conclude once 48 players remain or by the end of ten levels, whichever comes first, with those left in contention due to return for Day 3 on Friday, November 15th.

India’s Avneesh Munjal emerged triumphant over the High Roller – Double Stack Final Day festivities, and celebrated his career first APT title in style. Munjal topped the 117 entry field and closed out the win after defeating China’s Mingcong Chen in the final duel, denying the latter of a second series title. For his dominating performance, Munjal banked a worthy VND 1,541,930,000 (~USD 60,945) in prizes, while Chen is left to settle for a runner up finish for likewise a seven digit (VND) score. Day chip leader Dylan Foster also bagged a profit, yet fell one spot shy of making the final table in 10th place.

Local runner Bui Xuan Truong is the latest addition to the series’ multi-winners circle with his latest victory at the Super Hyper Turbo side event, earning him another APT title. Truong previously won the Turbo – Win the Button for VND 138,911,600 (~USD 5,495), and followed his triumph with another VND 61,992,800 (~USD 2,450) payday.
