APPT Manila: Kaoru Kishimoto Leads APPT National Final 9; Youngbae Kim, Danielle Noja, Jeffrey Pardales Among Winners
The Asia Pacific Poker Tour completed its seventh day of games with another batch of winners crowned and the featured APPT National down to its final 9 players. Taking place at the stunning Cove Manila at Okada Manila in the Philippines, this year’s APPT Manila offers the most extensive schedule yet with 67 trophy events and over PHP 144,000,000 (~USD 2.6 Million) in guarantees. To date, nearly half of the coveted spadies have already been claimed. Here are the latest highlights.

The featured APPT National is an annual crowd favorite and this edition was no different with 449 entries across three starting days. With a buy in of PHP 40,000 (~USD 680), the PHP 10 Million guarantee was crushed for a richer PHP 15,679,080 (~USD 268,325) prize pool).

Day 2 – Event Recap

Day 2 opened with 68 players returning, each one secured a piece of the pot. Seven hours in, the final 9 players emerged led by Japan’s Kaoru Kishimoto, trailed closely by Filipino Vivencio Nachor.

Nachor’s rise came fairly early which he maintained throughout while Kishimoto climbed during the last two rounds. Among his knockouts were Liao Po Hsun (16th) and Finn Pendarak (12th) on a classic flip.
Ireland’s Gary Thompson continued his dominating presence, entering the day with an enormous lead over the pack and stayed in the upper ranks throughout. Hot running Filipino pro Mike Takayama was bidding for his fourth final table this series and nearly got there, until he was stopped in 13th place by Japan’s Hiroyuki Akanuma who went on to secure his spot at the final table.

Day 2 wrapped up with Filipino Jeoffrey Sibal’s roller coaster run ending in a cooler against Singapore Keng Yong Tan. Sibal had two pair at the flop and was all in on the turn that gave Tan a set.

When the final 9 players return, they are all guaranteed a minimum payout of PHP 32,080 however the goal will be the handsome PHP 3,000,000 top prize which includes a package to the APPT Championship worth PHP 200,000.

Side Events

Running alongside the key events are side events that award the coveted spade trophies. Among the biggest winners was Korea’s Youngbae Kim at the PLO High Roller. Kim topped the 27 entry field to lock up a cool PHP 1,510,642 (~USD 25,850). Finishing third in that event was Australia’s Danielle Noja who has been on a heater since WPT Cambodia where he reached multiple final tables.

Noja also placed third at the High Roller Knockout Bounty, then last night, he reached the top of the Hot Hyper Turbo Knockout for his first PokerStars spadie on Asian turf.

In the big-field events, a couple of locals walked away minted. Jeffrey Pardales topped the 144-entry field of the PHP 1 Million guaranteed Megastack for a payout of PHP 229,092. This win came just one day after he reached the final table of the PHP 1M guaranteed Deepstack event.

Also picking up an impressive win was Filipino Emmanuel Segismundo at the Knockout Bounty, outlasting the 167-entry field. Segismundo is a well known local slugger with a long list of wins and cashes on home turf. This was his seventh spadie. Along with the PHP 305,000 cash prize, the champ earned an additional PHP 40,000 in bounties.
