APPT Manila Championship 2024: Okada Kick Off wraps up qualifying rounds with Lester Edoc in the lead

The opening highlight across the APPT Manila Championship 2024 lineup, Okada Kick Off has officially wrapped up its Day 1 rounds, having run through three heats over the past two days. While the turnout was one entry short of meeting the PHP 10,000,000 (~USD 173,475) guarantee, a notable PHP 1,870,000 (~USD 32,440) top prize remains under everyone’s watch. 

Flight C chip leader Lester Edoc leads the Day 2 charge with a mighty 618,000 (124 BB) to start tomorrow’s games, followed closely by fellow Filipino pro Czardy Rivera just two big blinds behind. All 71 returning survivors are guaranteed a minimum payout of PHP 40,000 (~USD 690) and are one step closer to claiming a seven figure payday.

Okada Kick Off Flight C Recap

The last flight on schedule, Flight C drew in the largest turnout across the three qualifiers with a total of 232 entries recorded over ten levels of registration. It took nine hours of play before the field eventually whittled down to 15% (ITM). While 35 survivors were set to advance through, only 34 are due to return in battle tomorrow following a double bust right on bubble time. The first elimination saw Hironobu Hasegawa unable to survive a race against Anacleto Quijano for his last big blind. 

Whilst standard, the following bust saw Alexis Lim suffer a crushing bad beat for a 109 BB pot against second in rank Czardy Rivera. Lim on the button, opened and called off for his entire 270,000 stack after big blind Rivera moved all-in with A♠8♥. Lim, a favorite to win with A♥K♣, was instead left empty handed as the runout Q♠J♥8♣9♣6♦ paired up his opponent for the win.

With the day’s action closed, bagging time saw three contenders from Flight C take on the top three spots across the Day 2 order with Lester Edoc, Czardy Rivera, and Soriano Ramos, stacking high above the charts. Flight B chip leader Jesus Rivera stands just in following, along with Flight A chip leader Christian Lortie to round up the top ten counts.
