2021 WSOP Online [International]: Festival guarantee surpassed! Nuno “Albertov” Capucho crushes the Deepstack for first bracelet
After 32 days of games, the 2021 World Series of Poker Online [International] surpassed its advertised US$ 52M+ guarantee with the current tally at US$ 53.9 Million across 23 bracelet events. The latest to complete was the WSOP #23: $600 Deepstack Championship NLH with Portugal’s Nuno “Albertov” Capucho crushing the final table to seize his first ever dream gold bracelet. Capucho brought Portugal its first gold this series and seventh in total. Also running deep was Taiwanese pro James Chen with a 4th place finish. WSOP #23: $600 Deepstack Championship NLH – Nuno “Albertov” Capucho – US$ 190,273
Portuguese player Nuno “Albertov” Capucho came out slashing at the final table of the WSOP #23: $600 Deepstack Championship NLH, wiping out seven of his eight opponents to clinch his first ever major career title. The milestone victory awarded Capucho the coveted gold bracelet and a career high US$ 190,273, nearly triple his previous known high score. With this win, Capucho has accrued well over US$ 600K in combined live and online tracked earnings.
One player favored to win by Asian railbirdswas Taiwanese pro James Chen who entered the final table running third in chips. Chen‘s extensive list of achievements included over US$ 6 Million in WSOP earnings. He was the only bracelet holder at the final table having won the 2019 WSOPE $250K Super High Roller NLH for a massive US$ 3.1 Million payout. However, Chen’s bid for a second gold was cut short in 4th place. Other Asian players running deep were India’s Manish “thekid” Lakhotia (25th), Taiwan’s Jun Shan “defreak” Yeh (20th), South Korea’s Seungyeol “TENOPPA” Kim (11th), and China’s Bowen “lbwgooxdluck” Li (5th).
Event recap
The two day WSOP #23: $600 Deepstack Championship NLH attracted 1,790 players with 1,030 re-entering for 2,820 entries. This generated another seven figure prize pool of US$ 1,607,400, making it the 19th of the series. Among the Asia Pacific players in the top 200 ITM of Day 1 were Jingxiang “Fuzzy Wuzzy!” Ong (78th), Seungmook “7high” Jung (97th), Cliff “TicTacTok” Chow (99th), Terry “Terryboom” Nguyen (111th), Jin Hyang “SON_7” Lee (120th), Malcolm “HappyWhale” Trayner (126th), Tarun “AreYouAhead” Goyal (140th), and Vincent “Moist” Huang (183rd). Day 1 wrapped up at 49 players with James Chen and Manish “thekid” Lakhotia as top two.

The final day ran a course of 4.5 hours with the final table set minutes before the 2.5 hour mark. Several of the day’s biggest movers were Israeli players “DeLaRoza55” and Ran “Pearblossom” Koller. DeLaRoza55 went from second to the bottom (48th rank) with just 6.7 BB all the way up to 13th place and Koller was sixth from the bottom with 16 BB to the final table, finishing in 7th place. Just before the final two tables, eventual champion Capucho rivered a flush with to double up through “sharkh0” . (Hand pictured below)
This began Capucho’s incredible rise to victory. He eliminated Diego “PERUYI” Gomez (19th) with ace on the board against and “sharkh0” (17th) with another lucky spike, hitting the king with to dust . At the final 16, Capucho won two big pots to take over the chip lead then followed it up with the eliminations of Patricio “AsesArgentosJRR” Andion (12th) with AK dominating AQ and Seungyeol “TENOPPA” Kim (11th) with pairing the ten to beat . To form the final table, Christopher “Canuck Clout” Doyle denied Roman Hrabec a second final table with three on the turn over .
Final table recap
The final table consisted of three WSOP decorated players, bracelet winner James Chen and ring winners James “PHJ10” Carroll and Felipe Ramos. Ramos was the only player on his second final table. He placed 2nd at the WSOP #12: $1,000 DOUBLE STACK No Limit Hold’em. At the helm was Capucho with a very big chip lead which he maintained until the end.
Within the first five minutes, Ramos became Capucho’s first of seven final table busts with dominated by . Half an hour later, the overwhelming chip leader shoved on a board with straight, Doyle tank-called for all his chips with set to depart in 8th place. Koller joined the executioner’s list when his ran into Capucho’s , Lucas Alves “thefifapro” Ferreira was next with pocket Nines falling to pocket Twos, then short stacked Bowen “lbwgooxdluck” Liu joined the rail with outdrawn by nine on the flop.
At four remaining, Capucho was backed by over ⅔ of the chips in play which he used to raise at nearly every hand. Carroll avoided the rail on a lucky five on the flop against Capucho’s . Not so fortunate though for Chen who dropped to 13 BB then lost it all to Carroll with dominated by . Chen was the only player Capucho did not eliminate. Down to three players, Carroll and Karolina “KarolinaNe” Norvaisaite went head to head on multiple hands that sent Carroll down to 13 BB. Capucho claimed it with over on a board . Carroll walked away with a healthy six figure payout of US$ 106,997. (Hand pictured below)
Heads up kicked off with Capucho 105 BB and Norvaisaite 35 BB. Despite the big lead, Norvaisaite didn’t go down easy, winning multiple pots to cut the gap significantly. However, the rush was short lived. Capucho claimed the next big pots. He denied Norvaisaite’s with straight on a board then continued to pressure with nonstop shoves leading to the final hand. Norvaisaite was all in with , Capucho with , the board ran . For their impressive run, both players earned their largest tracked score of six digits each.

The WSOP #27: $5,000 MAIN EVENT Online Championship is underway with 17 qualifying heats leading up to the final day on September 5. Last year, this event generated a massive 5,802 entries for a record breaking US$ 27,559,000 online tournament prize pool. This year’s edition will see the buy in remain at US$ 5,000 with a US$ 20,000,000 guarantee in tow. Only three Day 1 buy ins maximum permitted per player and same day re-entry is not allowed.
