Pedro Coloma Towers Over Final 54 Players At Day 2 of the WPT Cambodia Championship Season 24

It was pure knockout poker on Day 2 of the WPT Cambodia Championship Season 24 taking place at the Grand Ballroom of the luxurious NagaWorld Integrated Resort in Phnom Penh as 154 players returned expecting a steady grind of five 90-minute levels, only to be met with total carnage as 100 players fell fast leading to the bubble bursting before the end of scheduled play. Following the trend, it was a shocker closer as Yuequan Jia spiked a brutal two-outer on the river to crack Kazuo Yamamoto’s pocket aces and call it a day.

After the bags were all in, two players had amassed seven-figure fortresses led by Pedro Coloma with a commanding 1,574,000 in chips, equivalent to a jaw-dropping 197 big blinds or 31 starting stacks. Coloma's rise came just before the last level of play where he eliminated two players in a single hand to vault into pole position.

Close behind was Julien Sitbon, who bagged 1,308,000 (163 big blinds), while Joel Gaffney finished in third-rank with 951,000 (119 big blinds). A familiar face in fourth rank was Pang Kok Yong, who carried his WPT Prime Cambodia 2026 third-place finish momentum straight into Day 3 with 923,000 (115 big blinds).

Also in the top ten counts was Micheal O’Neill, who caught a lucky river early in the day against Daniel Neilson and went on to be the first player to reach a million in chips after eliminating Koen Breed. He closed the day with a very healthy 793,000 (99 big blinds).

Amin Riyazati

Cruising comfortably all day was last year's Player of the Festival winner Amin Riyazati, who entered Day 2 ranked third in chips and quickly went to work. While the two players ahead of him - Christian Mitchell and Louis Bellais - ran aground, Riyazati picked up pace early and spent much of the day commanding his table. At one point, Kunal Patni joked that Riyazati was “playing 100 percent of the hands.”

Patni himself also navigated the minefield, bagging 481,000 (60 big blinds). Other familiar names advancing included Neng Zhao, Travis Endersby, and WPT Global Ambassador Romulo Dorea, who fired a triple-barrel bluff in the opening level of the day and moved forward with 211,000 (26 big blinds).

Several WPT Global qualifiers also survived the onslaught, namely Alf Martinsson (571,000), Sven McDermott (380,000), Harsh Bubna (196,000), and Gytis Lauzaninkas (152,000). At one point McDermott held the chip with nearly 900,000 and would have surged higher if not for a cruel river against Ceesvin Abdulla that denied him the pot and the takedown.

On the downside, several WPT notables bowed out: Pete Chen, two-time winner Marvin Rettenmaier, and Dmitry Gromov. Their exits have ensured that a new name will be engraved on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup in just a few days’ time.

Day 3 resumes on Saturday, February 7 at 11:30 AM. The clock will resume counting down from 33:53 at Level 16 with blinds of 4,000-8,000 ante 8,000 then continue on for another five levels of 90-minutes blinds.

GOLD HAND OF THE DAY: Pedro Coloma Storms to the Top in Huge Clash

In the penultimate level of the day, two big stacks collided to create a massive pot and it defined the top of the leaderboard for the remainder of the night.

At blinds of 3,000-6,000 and a big blind ante of 6,000, there was an open raise and a call for 15,000 each. Dutch player Micha Hoedemaker jammed for around 177,000 and Andrew Chan from Singapore moved all-in behind him for a massive stack. It folded back to Pedro Coloma who asked for a count on Chan’s shove, which turns out to be for massive 546,000 - almost 100 big blinds at that point.

Coloma made the call, having witnessed the roller coaster ride of Chan in the last few hours from up close.

The pocket jacks held on the 6♠ 5♠ 3♦ 6♦ 4♦ runout and Coloma sent two opponents out, soaring to the top of the leaderboard after scooping the largest pot of the tournament so far. Often cursed to be one of the worst pocket pairs, the jacks may be worth to take a risk with after all and it certainly paid off for Coloma who finished Day 2 as the overall chip leader.

On the button, Alf Martinsson opens 16,000 and small blind Romulo Dorea gives him some action. At first, both players stay friendly on the flop 9♠ J♦ Khwith no bets fired but when the turn comes J♥ Martinsson resumes with a 25,000 delayed c-bet. Dorea calls to complete the runout with the 4♠ on the river.

Once again Dorea checks, no free information being given out by Martinsson who bets 80,000. Dorea pays to see Martinsson flip over A♠ A♦

Bubble Time: Pedro Coloma Defends His Big Blind

Battle of raises between the blinds begins with Micheal O'Neill limping in on the small bind, Pedro Coloma raises to 24,000, O'Neill answers with a three-bet to 70,000, and Coloma tames the heat with a call.

At the flop of 8♣ T♥ 4♥ O'Neill tries to shake off Coloma with a 45,000 continuation bet but he gets called to proceed to the turn where the J♦ joins the board.

O'Neill finally puts the brakes on giving Coloma the reins. Coloma fires a large 175,000 bet that quickly earns him the pot with O'Neill folding.

The flop comes T♣ 2♠ 3♦ and it checks to Martinsson, who slides out 17,000. Riyazati calls, and Wang cranks up the pressure with a raise to 55,000. After a long pause, Martinsson smooth-calls, while Riyazati steps away from the heat.

The turn brings the Q♦ and the intensity escalates. Wang checks, Martinsson takes control and fires 45,000. Wang calls to see it through.

On the river 4♣ Wang checks once more. Martinsson tanks, then pushes 181,000 forward, leaving just 20,000 behind. Another tense stretch passes before Wang finally releases his hand, surrendering a big pot to Martinsson as the break is underway.

Ghosh played Day 1b but is on a flight back home to India today, he almost reaches the money but falls ten spots short as there are now 64 hopefuls still in contention.

Shortly after the exciting four-way showdown, Louis Bellais goes all in and Graham Cowan calls with a covering stack. When they open Bellais is ahead with an ace but needs to dodge some royalty to avoid the rail.

Quan Qiu Denies Louis Bellais's Double Barrel

Out of the small blind seat, Quan Qiu three-bets to 40,000 and button raiser Louis Bellais tops up his 15,000 open. Qiu continues the aggression for 22,000 at the flop of Q♠ 2♣ Q♦ and again Bellais stays on his tail with a call.

The tempo shifts on the K♣ turn with Qiu slowing down to a check. Bellais takes a swing for 70,000, and Qiu doesn't flinch and calls.

The river 7♦ brings another check from Qiu, and again Bellais goes back to the well, pulling out 125,000. Qiu proceeds to tank, burning through two time extensions before he drops the hammer announcing all in. Bellais wastes no time laying it down, and the pot slides Qiu’s way.

Welcome to Day 2 of the WPT Cambodia Championship Event Season 24!

NagaWorld Integrated Resorts

The two starting days have already completed and today, the World Poker Tour Season 24 flagship tournament in Cambodia gets underway with 145 players returning to the Grand Ballroom of NagaWorld Integrated Resorts in capital city Phnom Penh. With a total turnout of 425 entries, the prize pool remains at USD 1,500,000, which NagaWorld has generously pledged to pay out in its entirety to the players that reach the money.

Action restarts at 11.30 AM. local time with blinds of 1,500-3,000 and big blind ante of 3,000. The average stack is a deep 45 big blinds. From here on, the blinds increase every 90 minutes until heads up where it drops to half pace. Today's round will be a fairly short one with only five levels schedule before bagging time at around 8:00 PM.

Carrying the torch as overall chip leader is Christian Mitchell with a stack of 477,500 (159 big blinds). Mitchell will have his work cut out with WPT Global Ambassador Romulo Dorea and WPT Vienna 2011 champion Dmitry Gromov both seated at his table.

Separated by just two big blinds is Louis Bellais with 472,000 (157 big blinds). Bellais will also have to navigate through some stiff competition with Fabian Rolli, Chak Hei Chan, and hot-running Pang Kok Yong who placed third at the Prime Championship a few days prior, at his table.

In addition to Gromov, two returning players with their names etched on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup are Marvin Rettenmaier and WPT Global Ambassador Pete Chen. Two-time cup holder Rettenmaier has a healthy 173,500 (57 big blinds) at his disposal however Chen will need to pick up momentum with 42,000 (13 big blinds) at the start.
