Gods of Poker Incheon Day 1: Japan Dominates, Yamamoto and Edoc Lead GOP Olympians
Gods of Poker has landed in Incheon, South Korea , and Day 1 of GOP Incheon: The Prophecy Unfolds delivered everything the brand promised: stacked fields, marquee names, and a Japanese contingent that wasted no time making its presence felt at Paradise City Casino .
Opening day set the tone for what is shaping up to be one of the most compelling stops on the GOP calendar. Across six completed side events and the opening flights of the flagship multi-day event, 22 players punched their tickets to the GOP Olympians final day. Japan claimed four of the first six trophies on offer. The UK’s Alfie Adam added another to his growing haul. And a handful of familiar faces from the Asian circuit reminded the field why they keep showing up.
Yamamoto and Edoc Lead the GOP Olympians Pack

The GOP Olympians drew 145 entries across four starting flights, with only the top 13.5% from each flight advancing. When the dust settled, 22 players survived to guarantee themselves a piece of the KRW 83,520,000 (~USD 57,000) prize pool.
Leading the way into the final day is Japan’s Ryoma Yamamoto, a GOP newcomer who topped Flight A with a stack of 1,302,000 — worth 108 big blinds. Yamamoto was a constant danger throughout the day, most notably delivering the knockout blow on the bubble when his pocket aces made a set on a board that also gave his opponent pocket kings a set. That hand alone said everything about how his day went.

Hot on his heels is Lester Edoc , the Filipino stalwart who bagged 1,280,000 (106 BB) from Flight B after a characteristically eventful session. Edoc first cleared the soft bubble by cracking Takashi Abe’s ace-jack with pocket aces, then found himself in a spot no player enjoys: four-bet shoving king-five suited into Boris Sun‘s ace-king. The flop dropped two fives for instant trips and Edoc never looked back.

Yohn Paredes also made it through, though he would be the first to admit it was closer than he’d like. “I was short stack all day and was surprised I even made it through. I really don’t even know why I was still there,” Paredes said. He bagged just 126,000 (12 big blinds) but he’s alive, and that matters. Paredes has been chasing the GOP Olympian title ever since finishing runner-up at the brand’s December launch in Jeju, and that hunger is clearly still driving him.
Among those who didn’t survive were Joseph Cheong , Dylan Foster , Bo Jin , and Haibo Yang , with Yang suffering the added indignity of falling on the bubble in the final flight.

Six Trophies Handed Out — Japan Takes Four
The side event schedule hit the ground running with six trophies awarded across the opening day.

Japan’s Toda Miyuki became the first player to lift a trophy at GOP Incheon, winning Event #3: Single Day High Roller despite trailing at the start of heads-up play against Kenji Arai . She mounted a comeback to seal the title and took home the coveted Spartan trophy, the first of the festival.
Adam Eyes Trophy #12

The other headline from Day 1 belongs to the UK’s Alfie Adam, who shipped Event #7: 6-Card PL Omaha Hyper Turbo to extend his remarkable GOP run. The win was his 11th GOP trophy overall, drawing him level with back-to-back GOP Player of the Series winner Martijn Gerrits . Adam, never one to rest, has already set his sights on trophy number 12.

Demigods Challenge and the Black Gauntlet Up Next
Day 2 brings the festival’s first major high roller showdown. The Demigods Challenge runs today with a KRW 14,700,000 (~USD 10,000) buy-in, making it the most expensive event on the GOP Incheon schedule. As a Gauntlet event, the winner earns the newly upgraded Black Gauntlet trophy, one of the most prestigious pieces of hardware in the GOP ecosystem.

Only three players have ever claimed one: Nam Michael Seunghyun (GOP Jeju), Marc Rivera (GOP Taipei), and Wouter Beltz (GOP Phnom Penh). Rivera is expected to be in Incheon with history on his mind, chasing what would be an unprecedented second Gauntlet victory.
