Chung Tang Lin Wins Korea Poker Cup 2 Main Event

The Korea Poker Cup came out with a bold KR₩ 880 Million Main Event guarantee which was up ten percent from its inaugural run. Like previous, the proposed figure was but a suggestion as 1,432 turned up across six flights for a smashing prize pool of KR₩ 1,616,799,600 (~USD 1,178,400). This set a new KPC Main Event record.

Among the attendees were many notables that included defending champion Chun Lung Wong who finished in 145th place, Peng Sen Wu, Zong Chi He, Chung Yi Ho, Tae Hoon Han, Joseph Kim, Xiaosheng Zheng, Tianhao Zheng, Vietnamese  Trung Quan Nguyen, and Malaysian Juns Leong. While all of them cashed, in the end, it was a KPC newcomer / poker vlogger who reached the top.

China’s Chung Tang Lin overcame a deficit at heads up against fellow countryman Cheng Huang  for his first ever live title and career high payout of KR₩ 183,990,000 (~USD 132,527).

I’m so so happy! I’m happy to say there is finally a champion photo in which I’m not in the back (as one of the champion’s friends). It’s my first main event trophy. I’m so grateful that I didn’t have to wait like three to five years to have the first main event trophy, like other players on average. The trophy looks so nice, so I will figure out a way to put it on a display shelf in my room.

First Major Title For Chung Tang Lin At KPC 2 Main Event

"I’m so so happy! I’m happy to say there is finally a champion photo in which I’m not in the back as one of the champion’s friends'! It’s my first main event trophy. I’m so grateful that I didn’t have to wait three to five years to have the first main event trophy, like other players on average. The trophy looks so nice, so I will figure out a way to put it on a display shelf in my room."

After reaching an ICM heads up deal, poker vlogger Chung Tang Lin came from behind to defeat Cheng Huang to clinch the title, trophy, and an extra KR₩ 9,000,000 for a total payout of KR₩ 183,990,000 (~US$ 132,527). In a post win interview, Lin shared some insights into his game,

How did you hear about the event and how do you like the series and the Landing Casino?

I have a bunch of friends who are also from Taiwan. They have played KPC before. It’s my first KPC and I just love it!

How did you prepare mentally and physically for a marathon event like this?

I just tried my best to enjoy the game and the event itself. I think KPC Main Event’s blind structure is great. I had a lots of fun playing this Main Event.

We’ve seen you taking a video while playing, are you vlogging? if yes how long are you been vlogging?

Yes, I am a vlogger and I have my own YouTube and Instagram channels. I have been doing this vlog thing for two years. I used to work in animation so making videos is easy for me. I’m happy with sharing my life in poker and I’m grateful that my followers like my content.

What was the most memorable hand or moment from the tournament?

There are two hands that are the most crucial. One is from when the heads-up just started, in which I had Q3. The flop came out as J-Q-K in which he bet and I called. The turn card was a two, and the river a very important card - a queen. That pot was monstrous and the queen in river helped me - my opponent had K3 - so after this hand, our stacks were in near amounts. The other hand is when I open-raised with 83o, and the flop was A-2-2, in which I had nothing. I bluffed ang got called by him. Then the turn was an eight, in which we both checked, only to see the river card was another eight! He made a huge river-bet, and I re-raised to around five million because I thought I had nuts. He called and showed a two in his hand. After these two hands, I got a huge chip lead.

What was your plan going into the final table?

Since I didn’t have much chips when the final table started, I chose not to play junk hands or marginal hands. The strongest starting hand I played before I began to act was A9o, as I remember. And I folded that hand after someone 3-bet. So in general, I was waiting for the right hand and the right time.

How did your outlook on the heads-up change after making the deal then winning the first seven hands after? Take us inside your mind at that point.

To be honest, there was not much going on in my head. I’m just really grateful that I ran really good.

As Day 2 progressed, 11 levels of 60 minutes each were completed, trimming the field from 173 players to just 13 in the running. Xiaqing Ji was at the helm and maintained course to enter the final table second in chips. Up top was the eventual runner-up, Cheng Huang, with a substantial advantage.

It only took 59 hands to reach the heads up stage with Huang ahead 100 bb to Lin’s 43 bb. After an ICM deal, Lin quickly tightened the gap to just a 10 bb difference and continued his winning spree to jump ahead. Despite Huang’s attempts, Lin only surged to a 65 bb advantage.

After just 21 heads up hands, victory was sealed. Lin’s AJ dominated Huang’s 105 on a board of 7AQ10Q. Lin secured his first ever major title and is looking forward to returning.

Will we see you more often on the Asian poker circuit now?

Of course! I like Jeju and I will definitely come here again.

Winfred Yu Wins $20K 2-Day Super High Roller To Break $10 Million Live Time Earnings

Poker industry legend Winfred Yu took home the biggest champion's purse of the series with $285,300 after 48 of the best poker players from Asia and around the world ponied up the $20,000 buy-in which resulted in an $870,300 prize pool.

Bracelet winner Joseph Cheong and No.1 on the Polish all-time-money-list Wiktor Malinowski were in the lead at the end of Day 1, but neither of them made it to the final table. The money bubble burst when Weiwei Huang was all-in pre and Sai Ho Chiu and Jingxuan Zhu ganged up on him, checking to the river with both of them beating Huang's ace-seven.

Bracelet winner Weiran Pu and No. 5 on China's all time money list Xuan Tan were the most accomplished players on the final table that Yu had to go through to finally lift the trophy after being 3rd at the KPC Single Day High Roller back in November.

His big break came with three players left at the table when Bin Leng shoved 4M with T 9 , then chip leader Zhu tried to isolate with A 3 , but Yu called for his last 4.3M holding J J . The board ran all blanks with Yu entering the heads up as 7 to 5 favorite. The deciding hand of the heads up was a preflop all-in with Zhu holding K Q slightly covering Yu with 7 7 and the board ran K 6 5 Q 3 giving Yu running clubs for a flush that had Zhu left with 1BB.

#7 High Roller Day 2 (4,000,000 KRW)
High Roller Day 2

Career High Takedown By Erdun Xu At The High Roller 2

Before entering this event, Erdun Xu was just shy of six figures in live career earnings. That all changed at the KPC 2 High Roller event where Xu outlasted the 168 entry field, defeating tough contenders such as Tae Hoon Han, Trung Quan Nguyen, and eventually Jingxuan Zhu after an hour of heads up action. Xu was ahead throughout as he grinded down Zhu and giving him no chance at taking control. Xu shipped a massive KRW 140 Million, equivalent to around USD 101,900.
