The WSOP #38: $600 Monster Stack NLHE 6 Handed [ Asia ] event was the first of nine events extending an Asia friendly time slot. Recapping the action just before the final table was formed, Finland’s Kasper Mellanen “GangstaPoker” surged to the chip lead by railing both India’s “inonhmeansfu” (11th) with pocket aces dominating pocket nines and short stacked Brazil’s Arosa (10th).
With identities now revealed, every player was seeking their first WSOP title. Among them was Blake Bohn “Beast2018!” who cashed five times at the USA leg of this series. Of his 26 WSOP career cashes, his deepest was in 2013 finishing 2nd at the $ 1,500 No Limit Hold’em. His hunt for the title continues having missed the mark here in 6th place. Another notable player in the final lineup was highly decorated Brazilian pro Joao Simao “naturalmente”. Simao fared better than Bohn with a 5th place finish for a 20th WSOP cash added to his achievements. For the remaining seven players, they each scored their largest known cash.
Asia had bracelet advantage with five still in however two of them fell early, Hui Tang “totoyou” (9th) to Mellanen and Kai Liu (8th) to Bohn. Next showdown, Toni Bosch Jordana “AnsuFati31” avoided defeat after cracking Mellanen’s pocket Aces with ten-nine of hearts that produced two tens on the board. Then Bohn earned a big pot off Mellanen to steal the chip lead.
Joining the whipping, Jingxiang Ong crippled Chun Kit Leung when connected the ace to overtake . Leung managed to triple up on the next hand but crashed immediately after to Phua. This was Phua’s first of four heads claimed. To bring the table down to five, Mellanen earned his second victim, emptying out Bohn with pocket aces holding up this time against pocket nines. This gave Mellanen over half the chips in play at his disposal. Matching Mellanen in busts, Phuabooted Simao for his second casualty. Phua outdrew with an Ace on the flop.
Leading up to the next elimination, Mellanen suffered two hits, doubling up Jordana then Ong. Ong continued to rise, landing a second double up paid by Phuawhile Mellanen was on the down side, boosting Jordana again. Ong went on to claim another pot against Phua with pairing the ace to beat and took the lead for the first time. However, Ong’s stay at the top was brief. Mellanen and Phuashipped a full recharge to cripple Ong. Ong’s final stand was Ace-three denied by Jordana’s Ace-ten. In turn, Jordana claimed the highly fickle chip lead. The next ten minutes saw Jordana dominating the action to rise to over half the chips in play. Phuarailed Mellanen in 3rd place to kick off heads up with Jordana slightly ahead.
It was a tug of war for the glory with the chip lead switching back and forth multiple times. The golden merch was finally captured on a full house over full house. Preflop action, Phuacalled a raise and the flop came . Check, c-bet Jordana, called. On the turn , Check, c-bet Jordana, raise Phua, call Jordana. On the river , Phuabet covering Jordana’s stack, Jordana risked it all. Phua full house, Jordana lower full house.
