After 24 WSOP cashes throughout his career, plus 10 more at the ongoing WSOP Online [ international ], Ireland’s Toby Joyce “shinerrr” finally reached his first WSOP final table at the $800 Pot Limit Omaha event then went on to close it out. Firing three bullets, Joyce captured the elusive gold bracelet, a WSOP high $ 139,452.91, and a $ 15,000 WSOP Europe Package. This was his first ever career title.

Prior to his golden win, Joyce’s strong performance at the online series was already the makings of a champion. His first cash was at WSOP #35: $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha Championship where he finished in 13th place for $ 20,872. From there, he went on to collect at 9 other events of which three were also PLO events. It seemed it was only a matter before he would ship it.

Aside from his impressive run at the series, back in December 2019 Joyce turned an overnight millionaire after he pocketed his largest score to date of $ 1,120,040 for runner-up at the WPT Diamond World Poker Classic $10,400 No Limit Hold’em event in Las Vegas.

Recapping the race, it took over three hours of final table play before Joyce emerged victorious. Mark Herm “Beanboozled” brought in the largest stack and was also littered with WSOP experience with 32 WSOP (live) cashes under his belt of which three were 3rd place finishes. Looking to improve on it, Herm did so by eventually taking 2nd place. Ruslan Nazarenko “zverrmvp” was also on the round. He was on his second final table visit, finishing 7th at WSOP #51: $400 Pot Limit Omaha. Like Herm, Nazarenko also improved on it, finishing 5th for a career high score.

Within the first half hour, the two shortest stacked – Wilder Brito (9th) and Rahul Gupta “sabertooth35” (8th) – bowed out in succession. Seven handed was to be the longest round running for an hour and 25 minutes until Maksim Fomin “MAX FOMIN” eliminated Grzegorz Derkowski “CUatRhinosLV” (7th). Minutes after, Fomin did the same to Giorgiy Skhulukhiya “NINASKH” (6th) and to Nazarenko (5th). Out in 4th place was Jonas Kronwitter “deucesup” who first doubled up off Fomin before falling to Herm.

Three-handed brought on plenty of heavy action. Herm was still chip leader with a massive stack of over half the chips in play. Even after Joyce won a big pot off the leader, it only slightly dented Herm’s stack. However, Herm’s losses began to pile up with Fomin capitalizing on three big pots to take the lead. From there, leadership switched between Fomin and Herm until the latter chunked down Joyce to once again amass over half the chips in play. Joyce recovered by banking two double ups off Herm then proceeded to empty out Fomin. It was all in at the flop (hand below). Joyce rivered trips to overtake two pair. Fomin departed in 3rd place with his largest career cash and his deepest WSOP finish.

Within the first ten minutes of heads up, Hermstole the lead then stretched it, however Joyce grinded to par where the chip lead began to switch between them. Joyce proceeded to win a big pot holding 5cJsAcKd two pair on a board 9s7hAsKsJh against Herm’s 6c4h6dAh to go up 2.5:1. Minutes after, it was all over. Joyce closed it out with a full house to Herm’s pair of eights.
