Daeyoung Park Tops Record Field to Win APT National Cup

Daeyoung Park

When the cards went in the air on the final day of the APT National Cup, Daeyoung Park was sitting tenth in chips with 1,205,000. By the time they stopped flying, he was the last man standing.

Park navigated a record-breaking field of 2,940 entries; the largest APT National Cup seen to date, defeating Yoong Shen Ding heads-up following an ICM deal to take home TWD 3,548,400 (~USD 112,706), the lion trophy, and a USD $10,000 APTC Main Event seat.

Final Day Action

148 players returned to their seats, all chasing a share of the TWD 28,929,600 (~USD 927,230) prize pool. Early on, the stacks were still playable and the eliminations came gradually, with familiar faces falling throughout the morning session.

Chien Chih Weng

Chien Chih Weng provided one of the early talking points, finding herself down to just 35,000 with a pay jump looming. She committed her stack from the small blind and was called by Ding in the big blind, who tabled pocket threes against her jack-seven. A jack on the flop kept her alive, and a seven on the river sealed the double; a small moment that would prove significant later, allowing her to ladder up to a 14th place exit for TWD 195,700 (~USD 6,270).

Rob Hollink was among the more notable casualties as the field thinned, running his king-queen into the ace-jack of Chia Ta Tsai and hitting the rail. Akshay Nasa came agonisingly close to the final table, only to run ace-four into Sunny Cheung's pocket aces and earn the unwanted title of final table bubble boy.

With the final nine set, it was Quang Trinh Do who became the first to fall. After being crippled by Hsi Yung Du when a four on the turn gave Du a pair to overtake Do's ace-five, Do committed his last 125,000 in the very next hand and ran jack-four into Wing Yin Szeto's pocket nines, exiting in ninth for TWD 305,500 (~USD 9,790).

Szeto himself didn't last much longer. With a short stack, he found himself forced all-in from the big blind against Park's pocket eights, his pocket sixes unable to improve on a clean runout, ending his run in eighth for TWD 379,700 (~USD 12,170).

Wing Yin Szeto

Cheung was next to go, and in unfortunate fashion. With ace-high and the nut flush draw on the flop against Ding's king-eight, Cheung looked well placed for the double. The turn brought Ding a gutshot, and the river completed it: a runner-runner straight in the cruelest fashion sending Cheung out in seventh for TWD 541,400 (~USD 17,350).

A floor ruling played a central role in Li Chiang Lu's exit in sixth. Ding had attempted to min-raise without realising Lu had already put in a full raise, and when he tried to fold after his verbal announcement, the floor ruled his hand live and forced the raise to 10,400,000. Lu moved all-in and the two showed down, with Ding's queen-nine finding a pair on the turn to overtake Lu's pocket sevens. Lu departed in sixth for TWD 737,400 (~USD 23,635).

Li Chiang Lu

Hsi Yung Du fell in fifth when his ace-ten ran into Ding's dominating ace-queen, finding no help on the runout and taking TWD 1,018,600 (~USD 32,650) with him.

Four-handed, it was Yongwon Jo — the hooded mystery man who had been one of the most entertaining characters of the day — who bowed out in dramatic fashion. Park check-called Jo's continuation bet on the flop before immediately shoving the turn. Jo called off around 20,000,000 with ace-ten, only to see Park table king-nine for a pair. The river changed nothing, ending Jo's day in fourth for TWD 1,313,900 (~USD 42,110).

Yongwon Jo gave nothing away all day

Chu Yang Chiang went deep and fought hard, doubling through both Lu and Jo at key moments to stay alive, but ultimately couldn't overcome the two big stacks three-handed. He departed in third for TWD 1,733,700 (~USD 55,570).

Heads Up

When heads-up play began, the stacks were closely matched, with Park holding a marginal edge. The early exchanges were measured, with both players probing rather than committing, and Ding edged ahead after picking off a pair on the river to take one of the first meaningful pots.

Yoong Shen Ding

Park clawed back steadily, winning a succession of small pots and keeping the pressure on before a pivotal moment swung things dramatically in his favour. With Ding whittled down to around 20,000,000, Park shoved the button and Ding called with ten-eight suited against Park's eight-seven. Ding flopped top pair and looked set to double, but the turn and river both came tens — Park had made quads and suddenly held a commanding lead.

Park and Ding Agreed to an ICM Deal

With the stacks close enough to deal, the two players agreed to an ICM arrangement before continuing to play for the title, trophy, and APTC seat. After the handshake, Park picked up exactly where he left off, opening repeatedly and watching Ding fold, bleeding his stack away hand by hand. Ding made a stand with ace-king against Park's pocket jacks and flopped the nut flush to double back into contention.

It wasn't to be for Ding, however. In the final hand, he got his chips in ahead with ace-ten, looking good against Park's ace-six, only for Park to spike a six on the flop and river the nut flush to seal the win.

From tenth in chips at the start of the day to champion by the end of it: Daeyoung Park takes the title, the trophy, and everything that comes with it.

Yoong Shen Ding opened to 4,800,000 and Daeyoung Park moved all in, covering Dings remaining 23,000,000 stack. It didn't take long for Ding to call, and the players flipped for the tournament trophy.

Park Runs Away

After a deal was reached, action resumed with Daeyong Park having the clear chip lead.

A number of hands saw Park continue to climb after opening pre-flop and seeing a number of folds from Yoong Shen Ding.

In a recent hand, Ding limped and Park checked.

The pair saw the 6♦ K♦ Q♠ flop and Ding bet 3,000,000. Park called and the pair checked down 8♠ turn to see the 3♥ river. Park picked up the pace and bet out 8,000,000 which saw Ding fold.

A few hands later, in another limp pot, the pair saw a 7♦ A♠ 4♣ flop.

Ding checked, Park bet 3,000,000 and Ding called.

The 5♣ turn saw Ding check-fold after facing a 6,000,000 bet by Park.

Park shoved his covering stack from the button, and after a jovial "let's gamble" from Ding, the two tabled their cards.

Park Takes a Small Lead

The second hand into heads up saw Yoong Shen Ding min-raise and Daeyoung Park call from the big blind.

The 7♦ J♦ 5♣ flop was checked by Park and Ding bet 3,000,000. Park stuck arond to see the T♣ turn which was checked by both to get to a 8♦ river.

Both checked to showdown with Park showing 5♥ 4♥ but Ding had a better pair holding A♦ 7♥

Ding still had the slight chip lead, but he found himself loosing some back to Park after folding a number of hands to Parks raises.

After around seven hands which didn't make it past a flop, one hand saw Park take a slight edge on Ding's stack.

Park limped and Ding checked, taking the pair to a flop. The dealer fanned the 2♥ J♦ 8♣ which prompted another check from Ding. Park bet 2,000,000 and Ding called.

Both quickly checked the 9♣ turn and Ding check-called a 5,000,000 bet by Park after seeing the 3♣ river.

Ding showed 7♣ 3♦ and had picked up bottom pair on the river. Park took the pot with the better kicker flipping over Q♣ 3♥

Hsi Yung Du was forces all in from the big blind with exactly a million left. Du was called by Daeyoung Park in the small blind who sweat his own hand by first peeling a three, and then an eight after making the call.

Do was left with just 125,000 after the river came the T♣ with Du locking up the double ending on two pair.

In the next hand Do committed his stack before the dealer had even shuffled the cards. He was under the gun and saw Wing Yin Szeto, who was sitting to his direct left limp for 800,000. Du, now in the big blind checked, taking the players three-ways to the flop.

The next hand saw Anmol Mehta open to 200,000 from under the gun, picking up the blinds without a fight.

The most interesting hand of the stretch came when Hun Tae Choi opened from early position and Mehta defended his big blind. The 6♥ 4♣ 2♠ flop saw Mehta check-call a 125,000 continuation bet from Choi before both players checked through the T♣ turn. APT Taipei 2026 National Cup Makes 20 Year History With Record 2,940 Entry Field

The Asian Poker Tour’s 20th year milestone has wasted little time adding another major chapter to the tour’s record books, with the APT Taipei 2026 National Cup - Sponsored by DeepRun producing the largest field ever seen in an APT event.

The TWD 12,000 APT National Cup attracted 2,940 entries across six starting flights at Red Space, generating a prize pool of TWD 28,929,600 (~USD 927,230). That figure made the tournament the largest-ever opening event in the APT’s 20 year history, and the richest opening event that the tour has ever seen.

The scale of the achievement becomes even clearer when compared with the other largest opening events in APT history. Taipei has dominated the top end of the list in recent years, with the National Cup growing from a festival starter into one of the tour’s most important record-setting events.

APT Taipei Opening Event History

The previous opening event field record came at APT Taipei 2024, when the TWD 10,000 APT National Cup drew 2,305 entries and generated a TWD 19,899,065 (~USD 629,650) prize pool. At the time, it was the largest opening event in APT history and the second-largest tournament the tour had ever run.

APT Taipei returned even stronger in 2025 from a prize pool perspective. The APT Taipei 2025 National Cup drew 2,161 entries, slightly below the previous year’s field size, but its TWD 21,264,240 (~USD 656,000) prize pool made it the richest opening event in tour history at that point.

APT Taipei 2026

The APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024 National Cup also played a major role in the National Cup’s rise, attracting 1,680 entries and creating a TWD 14,353,920 (~USD 454,375) prize pool. That result was another clear sign that the opener was becoming a major event in its own right rather than simply a warm-up for the rest of the schedule.

The growth is even more striking when compared with the start of APT’s New Era. Back at APT Taipei 2023, the tour-opening APT Kickoff drew 751 entries and generated a TWD 7,005,130 (~USD $220,600) prize pool, setting an opening event record at the time.

How Much Bigger Was This Opening Event?

The jump from 2024 to 2026 is significant. Compared with the 2,305 entries recorded at APT Taipei 2024, the new record represents an increase of 635 entries, or around 28%.

Against the 2,161-entry APT Taipei 2025 National Cup, the 2026 edition drew 779 more entries, a rise of roughly 36 percent. The prize pool followed the same upward trend, climbing from TWD 21,264,240 to TWD 28,929,600.

The comparison with the APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024 National Cup is even sharper. The 2026 edition drew 1,260 more entries, making it 75 percent larger than the 1,680-entry field recorded less than two years earlier.

Viewed against the APT Taipei 2023 Kickoff, the growth is enormous. The 2026 National Cup was almost four times the size of that 751-entry opener, showing just how quickly APT’s opening events have expanded during the tour’s New Era.

APT's Opening Event Success

The APT National Cup has become more than just an opening event. It is now one of the main indicators for where a festival is heading, and in Taipei, that signal has been unmistakable.

What once served just as a starting point for a series has developed into a record-breaking event in its own right. The 2024 edition set a new field benchmark. The 2025 version set a new prize pool standard, while this year's 2026 edition has taken the next step by breaking both the field size and prize pool records.

For a tour celebrating its 20th year, it shows how far APT has come from its early years into its current era of huge guarantees, packed tournament rooms, and record fields.

Welcome to APT Taipei 2026 where the remaining 148 players are competing in the Final Day of the APT National Cup - Sponsored by Deeprun. This year’s National Cup event here in Taiwan featured six starting flights across the first three days of the series. Players from all six flights combine today and resume play at 11:15 AM. with action continuing all the way down to a winner.

The mammoth six starting flights saw 2,940 entries, making this not only the largest side event and richest opening event in APT’s 20-year history, but the largest field ever seen on the APT tour. This event eclipsed the previous high of 2,547 entries which was set during last year's APT Taipei Main Event.

Each starting flight saw 14% of the field make the money on the first day of play taking home a share of the total TWD 28,929,600 (~USD 927,230) prize pool. Action paused when 5% of the field was reached in each flight and the remaining 148 players are due to retake their seats this morning. All players will have their eye on the infamous lion trophy and aiming to take home the first-place prize of TWD 4,129,000 ( ~USD 132,340). In addition, the eventual winner will also return to Taipei in November after claiming a ticket to the Asian Poker Tour Championship (APTC) Main Event valued at TWD 350,000 (USD ~$10,000).

The first of the two flights saw 19/367 and 9/178 players make it through. Hun Tae Choi (1,275,000) and Ngamsiri Asiralertsiri (1,460,000) topped their respective flights, returning as some of the biggest stacks going into the final day of play.

The turnout grew for Flight C, which saw 563 entries. Pranav Agarwal emerged victorious in the third flight and maintained the lead heading into play today. Agarwal returns with a 1,995,000 stack and is in a good position to fight for his first APT title. Flight D saw Tzu Shiang Chen lock up a healthy 1,420,000 stack and position himself at the top of the 14 players who made it through the late-night turbo flight.

Flight E saw the biggest turnout with 956 buy-ins, making for a TWD 9,407,040 (~USD 301,510) prize pool for that flight alone. Anderson Dakotaleath took the podium position at the end of the night and will return with 1,455,000 chips. The final flight saw 605 last hopefuls, with Jin Wang (1,200,000) joining the field this morning as one of the leaders. Once the fields combined, Wang narrowly missed out on making the top ten chip counts heading into the final day.

John Tech, Single Day High Roller Freezeout, APT Manila Classic 2025

John Tech will return to the felt, and be sitting comfortably after bagging up a 1,310,000 stack putting him 8th in the chip counts. Tech is no stranger to the APT circuit and will be looking to repeat history today and add another title to his growing record. Tech is a previous APT Main Event champion, claimed a Superstar Challenge title during the APT Taiwan 2023 Series and recently took down the Single Day High Roller Freezeout at last year's APT Manila Classic 2025.

Other familiar faces such as Rob Hollink (1,000,000), Akshay Nasa (410,000) and Fabian Rolli (265,000) also bagged and will return to the tournament today.

Action kicks off at 11:15 AM local time this morning, and contenders will play through 40-minute levels until a winner is crowned. Blinds will resume at 30,000/60,000 (Level 27) with a 60,000 big blind ante.
