On July 31, 2024, leading online poker site WPT Global announced their newest ambassador and it is none other than WPT Champion’s Club Member Yen Han “Pete” Chen. He is one of the most coveted poker players from Taiwan and currently sits in second place on his country’s all-time money list according to The Hendon Mob platform.

“Introducing Pete Chen, our newest WPT Global Ambassador! Crushing NLHE MTTs for over a decade & amassing over $5M in winnings, Pete is no stranger to the game,” the brief announcement by the brand in a Facebook video said.

Indeed, the poker pro from Taipei City has been crushing the live poker scene for nearly a decade. His first cashes go back all the way to 2011 and the first few years brought with it most results in the nearby Macau, which back then was a hotbed for card sharks in the Asia-Pacific region. Primarily taking part in the mid-stakes competitions and the year 2017 contained three of his top five cashes so far.

In April of said year, Chen came out on top of a 400-entry strong field in the WPT Season 16 Main Event at the NUO Hotel in Beijing, China. His victory came with a payday of $299,485, which he topped in June with a runner-up finish in the 2017 WSOP Event #56 $5,000 No Limit Hold’em for $382,122. One year ago, Chen made it all the way to third place out of a gargantuan field of 15,894 entries in WSOP Event #70 $400 NLHE The Colossus and earned another $216,320 for his efforts.

His Hendon Mob profile contains almost four dozen first-place finishes and this includes two WSOP Online Bracelet Events from 2021 and 2022 respectively. The maiden victory for one of the coveted gold bracelets came in Online Event #3: $400 No Limit Hold’em – Ultra Deepstack. Chen followed that up one year later with a second triumph in Online Event #15: $777 Lucky Sevens Bounty 7-Handed. He is the only player from Taiwan with two WSOP gold bracelets, while Carlos Chang, James Chen and Ching Da Wu have one each.

Besides his exploits on the felt, Chen has also entered the fray of coaching and content creation. His YouTube channel “Pete’s Poker World” contains more than 500 videos to date and he regularly films content during  live poker events throughout the last few years.

That very much fits in line with the profile WPT Global has been looking for when forming their team of ambassadors. With Brad Owen and Ethan Yau, they have two active vloggers and content creators on their roster already.
