Roberto Romanello is a Welsh professional poker player from Swansea who is considered the greatest player to ever come out of Wales. Known as the “Welsh Wizard,” he is one of the very few people in history to win poker’s Triple Crown, having secured titles in the EPT , WPT , and WSOP . Romanello is famous for his incredible passion for the game, often seen celebrating his victories with tears of joy and surrounded by his close-knit family.

Career Earnings & Biggest Results

According to The Hendon Mob, Roberto Romanello has earned nearly $5.4 million in live tournament winnings. He sits at the very top of the Wales All-Time Money List, a position he has held for many years. His biggest career score came in 2010 when he won the EPT Prague Main Event, taking home €640,000 ($846,180) in an emotional victory that put him on the global map.

Romanello made history in 2020 by winning his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet in a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event for $216,213. Biography & Poker Background

Born in 1976, Roberto Romanello grew up in a hardworking Italian-Welsh family in Swansea. Before poker, he spent most of his life working in the family business, the Roma Fish Bar, which his parents opened in 1973. He actually discovered poker by accident in 2005 while stuck at home for three months with a broken leg from a football injury. Bored and watching the WSOP on TV, he decided he could do better than the players he saw. He won a WPT tournament package online within his first two weeks of playing and never looked back. Despite his millions in winnings, Romanello is still a “family man” at heart and often helps out behind the counter at the family chip shop when he isn’t traveling the world for high-stakes games.

Play Style & Strategy

Romanello is famous for his infectious energy and talkative nature at the table. In his early years, he was known as a “chatty” player who could talk his opponents into making huge mistakes or giving away the strength of their hands. As the game became more technical, he adapted his style, blending his natural “feel” for the game with a more silent and disciplined approach when facing elite professionals. He describes his own strategy as his personal version of GTO (Game Theory Optimal), relying on his ability to read people and stay patient during long events. His “never give up” attitude is his trademark, often coming back from just a few big blinds to win entire tournaments.
