Ray Chiu, widely known in the poker community as Yik Chiu “Ray,” is a prominent professional poker player from Hong Kong recognized for his versatility across No Limit Hold’em and mixed game formats.

Career Earnings & Biggest Results

According to The Hendon Mob, Ray Chiu has accumulated over $274,600 in total live tournament earnings. His career-best live cash of $29,601 underscores his ability to compete at a high level in international fields. He currently holds a strong position on the Hong Kong All Time Money List, ranking 72nd overall.

Chiu has enjoyed a highly successful 2025 season, particularly within the Asian circuit. In November 2025, he secured dual 5th-place finishes at the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Championship Taipei , cashing in the NTD 15,000 Pot Limit Omaha Hi Lo – 5 Card (Event #25) for $2,412 and the NTD 7,000 No Limit R.O.E.D.S. Hyper Turbo (Event #32) for $587. Earlier that month, he claimed a runner-up finish in the Big O (5 Card PLO Hi-Lo) event at the Jeju Poker Festival for $4,032. These triumphs, along with three other 2nd-place finishes in Jeju earlier in the year across Limit 2-7 Triple Draw and Stud Mix events, highlight his elite status as a mixed-game specialist.

Biography & Poker Background

Originally from Hong Kong, where he still resides, Ray Chiu is a seasoned traveler of the global poker circuit. He built a significant portion of his early reputation at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, recording over 15 cashes in major bracelet events. However, in recent years, he has shifted his focus back to the booming Asian market, becoming a “Player of the Series” contender at the Asian Poker Tour (APT) . His background in mixed games like Triple Draw and Omaha sets him apart from many Hold’em-centric peers in the region.

Play Style & Strategy

Ray Chiu is known for an exceptionally adaptable and technical play style. While many players struggle with format transitions, Chiu excels in “Dealer’s Choice” and “Mixed Draw” environments, demonstrating a deep theoretical understanding of niche variants. His strategy in turbo and hyper-turbo formats involves aggressive ICM-based adjustments, allowing him to consistently navigate to final tables. His ability to switch gears between the patient requirements of Stud and the high-variance pressure of PLO Hi-Lo makes him one of the most well-rounded regulars on the modern circuit.

My relationship with cards started thanks to my father. I was still in elementary school when he first taught me how to play Rummy, and I still remember the long evenings spent playing cards with my family. During the poker boom, I was still underage, but the televised tournaments immediately captured my attention. I became fascinated with the game and started learning different poker formats whenever I had the chance. Later in life, as an adult, I was fortunate enough to spend four years playing poker professionally. During that time, I mainly focused on Heads-Up Sit and Go games, where I found the format that suited me best. Even though my professional career was relatively short, poker remains something I’m grateful to have experienced as a major part of my life. Today, I play mostly as a hobby, while writing has become my main focus. That said, my enthusiasm for writing about poker is just as strong as my passion for playing the game once was.
