Daisuke Ogita - SOMUCHPOKER
Daisuke Ogita is a Japanese poker superstar ranked number 6 in his country’s All Time Money List. Ogita has competed across the globe but his rise to the top ranks of live poker play came post-pandemic with a string of successes at the European circuit and a maiden Asian Poker Tour Title just this year 2024. As of this writing, his total live earnings amount to $1,929,017.
Daisuke Ogita – Through The Years
Daisuke Ogita’s poker career began in 2017, grinding it through his first Asian tournaments in Macau, Manila and South Korea. The Japanese then leaped immediately cross-continent to his first U.S. tournament at the 49th World Series of Poker 2018 and Aria 2018 Poker Classic, Las Vegas. Though the results were less than stellar, the experience gave Ogita more experience and confidence in time for his return to the Asian circuit.
In November 2018, he made his first major cash of $ 33,690, finishing 3rd in the Main Event of the Asia Open Poker Tour Korea, Incheon before snaring his first two titles, back-to-back at that, the following year in February 2019. Daisuke Ogita ruled the side events at the Paradise Poker Series 3, Incheon, snaring the Baby High Roller and KO Bounty Events for a combined cash of more than $25,000. He would follow this up with a runner-up finish at the Main Event of the Japan High Roller Festival 6, Taipei City.
Ogita then replicated his back-to-back titles in May, shipping the Gold Dragon Event at the All Japan Poker Championship Asian Circuit Incheon and the Deep Stack Hyper Turbo Event in the Taipei edition of the AJPC. Ogita carried the momentum of his wins to perform better on his second tour of the U.S. circuit, finishing 2nd at the Summer Saver II Event of the DeepStack Championship Poker Series, Las Vegas, in the process, banking his first six-figure cash of $ 155,860. The Japanese capped his 2019 season with a deep run at the Six Handed Event of the European Poker Tour Barcelona, adding $ 32,633 to the year’s poker bounty.
Daisuke Ogita’s poker career, however, would find a higher gear after the pandemic. Ogita slowly got his groove back beginning in November 2021 with a side event title at the DeepStack Championship Poker Series II, Las Vegas, winning the Survivor Event. In September 2022, he then captured the PLO Event of the World Poker Tour Australia, Gold Coast, cashing $ 36,669 before landing a table finish at the WPT Australia Main Event for a second six-figure $ 153,418 payoff.
2023 saw Ogita revving up tournament wins with another pair of back-to-back titles in February. First with the 6 Handed Event at European Poker Tour Paris worth $ 117,070 then smoking the record field of 2,183 entries of the FPS Main Event of the European Poker Tour Monte Carlo. Ogita defeated France’s Rubens Sellam in heads-up play to claim another major trophy and a huge $ 338,654 payoff. The Japanese finished the year with deep runs at the European Poker Tour Barcelona and a runner up finish at the NLH Event of the European Poker Tour Prague to close the 2023 books with $ 177,637 more in earnings. This was all a prelude to Daisuke Ogita’s biggest achievement to date.
In March 2024, Ogita ruled the richest poker tournament ever to play out in Taiwan, coming out on top in a 1,182-strong field at the Asian Poker Tour Taipei Main Event. He also claimed the largest first-place prize ever to be awarded in the region – a monster $ 410,137 and Ogita’s career best cash. Amazingly, it was Ogita’s maiden Golden Lion APT Main Event Trophy in his debut appearance at the tournament series.
Daisuke Ogita is approaching elite territory with just a few wins away to a Top 5 rank in the Japan All Time Money List as he nears the $2 Million milestone in live career earnings.
