Shardul Parthasarathi awarded the trophy at the Super High Roller
After a heads up deal, Shardul Parthasarathi picked up another title and trophy for India making that now five for the country. Shardul overcame a deficit at the final table of the $5.3K Super High Roller, rising from the shortest at five handed to winner. From the deal, he walked away US$ 68,922 richer while runner up Philippines Christopher Mateo earned the largest cut of US$ 73,778.
Event recap
Day 2 of the Super High Roller resumed with registration still open before the first deal of the day. Nine players took advantage to bump up the total entries to 54. With buy in at a hefty US$ 5,300, it built a prize pool of US$ 261,900. Among the newcomers were Viet Nam‘s Nguyen Quang Minh, Filipino Lester Edoc, and Taiwan‘s Chi Jen Chu , joining pros such as Thailand‘s Punnat Punsri who was back in Asia after a spectacular WSOP run, and WSOP bracelet champions Mike TakayamaandAbhinav Iyer.
By the time the final table was formed, the day’s entering chip leader Sweden’s Matt Douhan and Denmark’s Michael Kim Falcon were long gone with the latter cleaned out by Shardul.Philippines Florencio Campomanes brought in the lead followed by Viet Nam’s Trong Hieu Ngo who won the Mystery Bounty yesterday and was back at his third final table. Filipinos dominated the lineup with David Erquiaga and Christopher Mateo also in the round.
Action proceeded with Florent Remi out as the stone cold bubble with Campomanes landing the Two to dust . First to the money was China‘s Jiazhi Zhong (9th) with all his chips sent to Ngo. Struggling short stack Vincent Huang soon followed and was Mateo’s first final table knockout. As Mateo continued to chip up, Shardul survived an all in, while Erquiaga seesawed to see his stack drained by Mateo and Campomanes.
At five handed,Shardul landed his second double up, this time through Mateo. The loss was minor for Mateo who quickly made up for it and more in a big pot against Ngo then eliminated Malaysia’s Victor Chong (5th) with Ace-Jack outdrawing pocket Fours. Shardul did the rest. He finished off Campomanes (4th) and Ngo (3rd) then struck an ICM deal that ended the chase. Shardul was officially awarded his first ever WPT title.

The Short Deck event was one of the cheapest events on the menu costing just US$ 200 to enter. This brought 73 to action for a pot of US$ 12,392. By bubble time, one of the shorties was recent winner Akshay Kapoor who folded with two players all in before him. Wongwichit delivered the bubble with over , both players pairing their lower card. Kapoor met his end in 9th place. South Africa’s Marc Joseph exited (7th), big stacked Michael Lindstrom was stopped in 5th place, then two busts later, Wongwichit opened heads up as massive chip leader.
