The Vietnam Poker Games hosting the VPG Ho Chi Minh at the Saigon Poker Room was canceled on its final day preventing the completion of the Main Event and the Super High Roller. In light of this unfortunate situation, VPG has issued a statement to Somuchpoker.

Last week, VPG hosted a successful poker series at the Saigon Poker Room (SPR) however it came to an early conclusion due to a government review of Saigon Poker Room. In light of this, SPR made the difficult decision to voluntarily shut down temporarily to ensure full compliance with any government assessments. While both the series and SPR’s operations were legal and above board, this decision was made in the best interest of the players and SPR.

As Day 11 of the series was not completed, two events were impacted: the Main Event Day 2 with 8 players remaining and the Super High Roller Day 2 with 23 players remaining. To ensure fairness, both events had their chip stacks recounted under the oversight of the Head of Floor. Additionally, Independent Chip Model (ICM) calculations were conducted to ensure the most equitable distribution of prizes among the players. With VPG’s full support, SPR and VPG stand united to demonstrate transparency and cooperation during this time, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining and growing poker’s positive reputation in Saigon and Vietnam. VPG looks forward to future collaborations with SPR.

As of this time, VPG has stated that the Main Event and its remaining prize money has been distributed as well as for those affected at the Super High Roller event.

VPG Ho Chi Minh was the first full blown poker festival in Ho Chi Minh City in two years. Running from November 1 to 11, 2024, the Saigon Poker Room was packed daily. Players can only hope that this cancellation is just a minor setback, as the return of live poker has been sorely missed in the city.
