Negreanu’s crazy summer: HU Battle vs Polk, WSOP scores and Twitch ban
Negreanu lost his cool on a WSOP live stream just this Monday after a chat commenter insulted his wife in which he replied with a tirade of curses. This week has been a crazy time for the “Michael Jordan of poker” as he responds to the backlash of his latest episode bringing several fans tuned in for current updates.
With a heads up match brewing between Negreanu and Polk, a discussion of terms and conditions is underway to finally settle the longstanding dispute. Despite the imposed Twitch ban on the GG ambassador, Negreanu has been spotted cashing in on several WSOP.com bracelet events in search for his seventh bracelet award.

Taking a break from professional poker, Polk has agreed to take on Negreanu as his latest opponent for an exciting heads up match. After chiming in to the backlash from Negreanu’s outburst, podcaster Joey Ingram proposed an obvious solution to end the grudge between the two tweeting, “Can Doug and Daniel settle this by playing poker against each other HU at some point please???”. Thousands of poker enthusiasts were in full support and a Twitter discussion on an upcoming match is currently in progress.

Being the top heads up No Limit Hold’em player he is, Polk has settled to play the heads up match 50% in the NLH format and the other half in a game of Negreanu’s choice. While talks of the stakes and set of hands to be played are still being finalized, Negreanu recently released a blog on why he has accepted the challenge. In his blog, the decade-long pro relays his sentiments on being the overall underdog in the match against Polk.

He further highlights how showing his hole cards will provide more advantage for Polk’s team to be able to dissect his plays. Although believing that the winner of this match may not prove or solve any of the issues, Negreanu is ready to do his best to ultimately give the poker fans what they want. So far, the two have decided to play a series of games with stakes set at $200/$400 between 10k – 25k hands which is still left to be settled.
“Clearly this is something that created a lot of buzz in the poker world and poker fans want to see this match. What does it all mean if you win or lose? Nothing really. It may mean that one player is better at a very specific form of poker than the other, but we already know that. There are some details that need to be ironed out, but I’ll play the match.”, posted Negreanu.
In response, Polk tweeted:
Some really great stuff in this Dnegs blogpost
1) YOU said 10-25k hands and YOU said $200/$400. Get out of here with “his turf his rules”
2) If we both show holecards its equal, you have just as much opportunity to watch as I do. Its also what the fans want. pic.twitter.com/jNI8FlNzR6

3) “Many have suggested adding a charity component… but he is anti giving to those in need. “
Imagine thinkig im “anti” helping people. I said I didnt want to use charity as a promotional aspect to this match. Most charities are also horribly mismanaged.

Twitch ban
As a result of his recent blow up on stream, Negreanu faces a permanent ban on the live streaming channel, Twitch. The viral clip as seen by many in the poker community shows Negreanu making physical threats and violent comments which were clearly in violation of the platform’s terms of service. Being the face of the fastest growing poker site GGpoker, the permanent ban may be very problematic for his sponsor given that Negreanu is expected to promote the brand and its online games via this channel.
While the prestigious 2020 WSOP Online is currently ongoing, Negreanu was supposedly going to share with his viewers on Twitch his journey throughout the festival. Admittedly of his faults, Negreanu issued a public apology during a brief stream earlier this week saying, “I would like to formally apologize for suggesting that breaking a troll’s teeth and then feeding them to him anally is the appropriate way to deal with an opposing viewpoint,”. Although the outstanding pro realized his fit of rage in response to the offensive comments directed at his wife was impractical in the sense, Negreanu refuses to agree with the permanent ban imposed by Twitch further adding, “they have every right to give me a warning or a suspension.”
