CTP Asia Poker Arena opened its doors to another action-packed day with the APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024 Main Event front and center of all the buzz. Two Day 2’s coursed through five levels of play, and saw 301 runners remain out of the staggering 1,991 entry field. Singapore’s Andrew Ong stands tall over the list of survivors, in great shape to begin the Day 3 action. 

Alongside the Main Event festivities, Ryan Plant, Tony Khoang, and Jack Lai Moon shined across the side events, with the Irish runner topping the NL Hold’em – Freezeout event, and the latter two clinching second series victories.

Andrew Ong leads 301-survivor pack into Main Event Day 3

APT showcases another successful season across the felt with its ongoing Main Event games serving as its biggest showing to date in Taiwanese history. Official numbers arrived at 1,991 total entries, generating a NTD 86,011,200 (~US$ 2.7M) prize pool well over its ambitious NTD 65,000,000 (~US$ 2,057,610) guarantee. 295 players are geared to collect a piece of the pot, with the money expected to trickle in today’s Day 3 games.

Two batches of Day 2 played through five 60 minute blind levels each and saw Singapore’s Andrew Ong top the charts by day’s end with 582,000 in chips. Ong stormed to the top of the list after scooping up a massive pot in a three way showdown holding AA against AK and QQ. Right on his tail is South Korea’s Manwoo Park with a similar 116 big blind stack (580,000), and Australia’s Dylan Foster with 575,000, to round up the top three spots.

Joining the 301 survivors coming into Day 3 are several seasoned contenders including WPT Cambodia champion Konstantin Held (507,000), USA’s Robert Kiss (506,000), Taiwan’s Chia Yun Wu (426,000), Vietnam’s Ngoc Anh Cao (405,500), Taiwan’s Chi Jen Chen (264,500), Malaysia’s Isaac Phua (236,000), Yohwan ‘Boxer’ Lim (224,500), New Zealand’s Tae Hoon Han (150,000), Hong Kong’s Sparrow Cheung (137,000), and UK’s Henry Kilbane (83,000).

Former Main Event champions Shixiang Khoo (419,000) and Lester Edoc (358,000) are also in search for another crushing victory, along with Natural8 ambassadors Hua Wei Lin (231,000), and Kunal Patni (84,500). Flight chip leaders Jae Wook Shin (468,000), Jacob Ikuma (373,500), Keigo Kubo (300,000), Chee Yong Sim (272,000), likewise survived another day of play and remains in contention to claim the NTD 14,413,200 (~USD 452,000) top prize.

Ryan Plant triumphs over NL Hold’em – Freezeout

Ireland’s Ryan Plant successfully claimed his maiden APT title at the NL Hold’em – Freezeout event, having outlasted the 272-entry field for the title. Plant overcame heads up play against Japan’s Sho Wada and banked the lion’s share of the NTD 5,875,200 (~US$ 185,980) prize pool for his dominating performance. Action stretched all the way through early morning where he finally secured the NTD 1,173,200 (~US$ 36,580) top prize for his second career best cash.

Two runners shared the day’s spotlight, having bagged a second series APT title across the APT Taipei Poker Classic festivities. Netherlands’ Tony Khoang followed his previous win at the Big “O” Masters – PL Omaha Hi-Lo – 5 Card event, and locked in another top payout at yesterday’s Limit R-O-S-E games. An incredible feat, his second trophy for the week bumped up his bankroll NTD 101,075 (~US$ 3,169) further in winnings.

Malaysia’s Jack Lai Moon similarly closed in another success at this season’s games, having bested the 71-entry field Super Hyper Turbo – Bomb Pot tournament. Moon padded his wallet another NTD 121,865 (~US$ 3,821) in cash, while leaving Thailand’s Kajornnut Prirungrueng to settle for a runner up finish. Moon previously triumphed at the Turbo – PL Omaha event and earned NTD 118,038 (~US$ 3,680) in prizes, to bring up his 2024 APT run to another level.
