Anh Tuan Trinh Tops Day 1C Survivors After a Massive Hero Call

The VND 15 Billion (~USD 570,000) guaranteed Mini Main Event at the USOP Vietnam Ha Long Bay 2026 kicked off its Day 1C flight, drawing a strong field of 331 entries with a VND 20 Million (~USD 760) buy-in.

After 11 hours of action at the tables, the field was cut down to just 42 players, all of whom secured their Day 2 seat and a guaranteed payout.

Leading the pack is Anh Tuan Trinh, who bagged a massive 829,000 in chips (83 big blinds) at the end of the day. Trinh's path to the top was fueled by winning a huge 766,000-chip pot against Hsiang Chun Chang. In that hand, Trinh used his time bank to make a big river call with a second-nut flush against Chang's straight, a key hand that vaulted him into the chip lead.

Right behind Trinh is Dinh Hai Linh Nguyen with 704,000 chips. Nguyen’s stack grew significantly after eliminating Quoc Vo Vo on the soft bubble. In that hand, Nguyen called with queen-four against Vo’s king-queen and found a helpful four on the flop. Rounding out the top three is Hyeosik Yun.

The day also saw the tournament hit a major milestone, as the original VND 15 Billion (~USD 570,000) prize pool guarantee was officially broken midway through Day 1D registration. With more flights running, the final prize pool is set to grow even larger.

The flight came to an end when the bubble burst without the need for hand-for-hand play. WSOP bracelet winner Guoliang Wei got his chips into the middle on a flop with a flush draw, but failed to hit his outs against Sumin Jang’s top pair, making Wei the final elimination of the day.

All 42 survivors will return tomorrow at 12:00 PM for Day 2 to battle it out until a champion is crowned.

Bracelet Winner Falls on the Bubble

Just before hand-for-hand play could even start, the money bubble burst.

A heads-up battle between Guoliang Wei and Sumin Jang saw all the chips go into the middle on a T♣ 5♠ 3♠ flop, putting Wei's tournament life at risk.

Sumin Jang: A♠ T♦

Jang was ahead with top pair, top kicker, while Wei was looking for a spade to complete his flush draw. The A♥ on the turn gave Jang two pair, but it also gave Wei a gutshot straight draw.

The 9♦ on the river missed all of Wei's outs, and Jang eliminated the WSOP bracelet winner as the official bubble boy.

Because of the elimination, hand-for-hand play was not needed, as the field instantly hit the final 42 players.

Vo Exits On Soft Bubble

Action folded to Van Quoc Vo on the cutoff, who opened for 23,000. On the small blind, Dinh Hai Linh Nguyen three-bet raised to 125,000.

Vo went into the tank and then finally decided to risk his 233,000 all in.

Nguyen asked for a count and then realized he only had to add 100,00 more. He called.

Vo completely dominated Nguyen, but Nguyen reasoned that he only had to add less than double.

The turn came 5♥ and Nguyen grew even louder and by the time the 6♣ hit the river, he was exalted.

Meanwhile, a disappointed Van Quoc Vo couldn't believe what just happened as he exited the tournament area a few spots short of the money.

Nguyen continued his celebration as he stacked his chips, assured that he was the chip leader.

Celebration Cut Short for Nielsen

The shortest stack, Ilia Timofeev, was all-in for around 170,000, while Thanh Minh Nguyen was all-in for 203,000. Johnni Nielsen had both players covered.

Luo checked and Ji fired 10,000 for the 31,000 side pot.

Luo let go, leaving Ji to collect the side pot and go heads up against Zhang.

The 8♠ peeled off on the river, and Rok checked one final time.

After burning through a time-bank, Trinh locked eyes with the board and fired a fierce bet of 85,000. The pressure shifted back to Rok, who went deep into the tank himself, utilizing a time bank before ultimately deciding to make the call.

A massive pot of around 135,000 chips was scattered in the middle of the table beside a completed board that showed 8♠ K♥ T♠ A♦ K♠

Competing for this monster pot were Than Minh Nguyen on the big blind and Xiaosheng Zheng on the button.

Nguyen was the first to act and moved all in for 72,000, covering the remaining chips of Zheng.

Zheng went deep - like in another world out-of-body deep - putting out all his five time bank tokens in front for the dealer to pick from. Zheng's tournament life was on the line and he needed to make a thorough assessment. Zheng wondered if dragons really flew the Earth once upon its billions of years.

Finally, Zheng went back into his consciousness, awoken by the dealer who reminded him he had ten seconds left to act and no more time bank tokens left.

Zheng finally decided to fold.

Zheng asked Nguyen if he could see one cards and Nguyen shuffled it in front of him like a three-card monty. Zheng picked out a 7♣ and gave out a heavy sigh, saying he folded ace-jack. Nguyen just smiled while he stacked a wall.

Chengshan Wu, Day 1A Chip Leader

Yesterday's opening flights already produced 54 qualifiers to move on to Day 2.

Day 1A saw 240 entries take to the felt with 30 survivors making it through to the Day 2 final. China's Chengshan Wu set the bar for the highest chip count with 660,000 chips and also earned a VND 60 million bonus for that achievement.

Day 1B saw 192 entries with 24 advancing to the Day 2 final. China's Kaiyun Zhu bagged a top stack of 565,000 chips and was awarded a VND 50 million bonus.

Today's flights don't carry any bonuses for the flight chip leaders.
