After three gruelling days of play, Henri Hinds emerged victorious in the GLPC Hanoi Main Event, defeating Vietnam’s Van Sang Nguyen heads-up to claim the title and a career-best payout worth over $155,000.

The Day 1B chip leader, Hinds carried his early momentum all the way through a record-breaking field of 1,564 entries, but the road to victory was anything but straightforward. The final day was a rollercoaster, with the Irishman starting fifth in chips and battling his way back from multiple short-stack situations before finally lifting the trophy at Grand Loyal Poker Club. It was a fitting reward for his persistence, having already reached three final tables earlier in the series before sealing the one that mattered most.

Speaking to Somuchpoker moments after his win, an elated Hinds reflected on the turbulent journey that led him to victory:

"I had like 500k [on day 2] then got a really sick two-outer. I don’t know, I just didn’t have any hopes. I thought just take the spot, if it goes well it goes well. You can only play what you’re given."

He described the final day as a constant mental test:

"There were constant ups and downs, and I just had to be indifferent - play what I had at the time."

Comparing this victory to his Main Event win in Cambodia last year, Hinds noted the stark contrast in paths to glory:

"That was very different. I was chip leader early on, held the lead the whole time, came into the final table and second in chips busted straight away - then I just dominated. This was completely different. There was no point where I could cruise or get momentum; it was constantly changing positions. Different stack setups, different ICM spots… yeah man, that was a f***ing war."

Asked about his immediate plans, Hinds laughed:

"There’s a high roller package as part of the win - otherwise, I’d probably be going for a drink."

The final table was a constant grind. Hinds began with a bang-average stack and repeatedly found himself on the ropes. At one point he was the clear short stack, down to around ten big blinds, before mounting an impressive comeback. A series of doubles kept his hopes alive, and key knockouts over Yuequan Jia early on, as well as third-place finisher Thi My Phuong Nguyen set the stage for his heads-up battle against Nguyen.

Despite entering the duel 10 million chips behind, Hinds quickly seized control by winning the first four pots in succession. The decisive hand saw Nguyen four-bet shove with pocket fours, only for Hinds’ ace-jack to connect on the river - the jack securing him the title and sparking an eruption of joy from Hinds and his rail.

In the following hand, Nguyen raised again from UTG, and big blind Henri Hinds made the call.

On the flop 9♦ 4♠ 3♥ , Van c-bets 900,000, but Jia raises to 2,000,000. Hinds folds, and Van uses a time bank before calling.

The turn 7♥ brings more action, after Van checks, Jia fires another 3,000,000. Van tanks again before making the call.

Both players miss everything, but the river A♥ brings an Ace, giving Van top pair. He leads out for 2,600,000, and Jia quickly folds. Van drags a solid pot and climbs higher on the leaderboard.

Nguyen Thi My Phuong moved all in for 26,000,000 and was called by short stack Fankai Li in the big blind.

From the cutoff, Yuequan Jia open-shoves for 6,600,000, and in the big blind, Viet Anh Le sits up and calls for his tournament life with 3,700,000.

Shortly after, Nguyen Thi My Phuong opened to 800,000 from under the gun and was called by Yuequan Jia in the big blind.

The flop came 5♣ 3♣ J♣, and Jia moved all in for his remaining 1,400,000 chips. Phuong called to put him at risk.

On the flop Q♠ 8♣ 4♥ , Van Sang leads for 1,700,000, and Thi My, holding top pair top kicker, raises to 3,500,000. Van Sang calls. Both players check the turn A♦ .

On the river T♠ , Van Sang fires 5,000,000 trying to bluff with only king-high, but Thi My Phuong snap-calls, revealing top two pair to take down the massive pot, reclaiming her position as the chip leader.

Hinds connects with top pair on the flop T♠ 7♣ 2♥ and check-raises to 1,100,000 after Nguyen’s 500,000 c-bet. Nguyen calls with his overpair. Both players slow down, checking the turn 6♠ but Hinds hits trips on the river T♣ and leads for 1,500,000. Nguyen, holding only an over pair, shoves all in. After tanking until his time bank nearly runs out, Hinds makes the call and scores a massive pot for a huge boost to his stack.

Lu Ferdinand got the majority of his ~2,000,000 stack in from the button, with Nguyen Van Sang calling to put Ferdinand at risk from the big blind:

UTG Viet Anh Le raises to 550,000 with A♥ J♥ , and only Van Sang Nguyen calls from the hijack holding A♦ T♦ . Le fires 700,000 on the flop Q♣ J♦ 5♥ and 1,100,000 on the turn 3♣ .

On the river 5♣ , Le slows down and checks for value, but Nguyen shoves all in with just ace-high. After using a time bank, Le folds, and Nguyen successfully pulls off a gutsy bluff.

After picking up several pots and blinds, Thi My Phuong Nguyen continues her strong momentum, soaring to 20,000,000 in chips, solidifying her position among the top stacks at the final table.

Ferdinand Lu opens to 450,000, and from the small blind, Sergei Korzhenko shoves for 1,600,000. Lu makes the call.

Nguyen Thi My Phuong raised to 400,000 from UTG and received a call from button Henri Hinds.

On the T♥ K♣ 2♠ flop, Phuong check-folded to Hinds’ 600,000 bet, showing her pocket sevens in the process.

In the next hand, small blind Yuequan Jia completed, and Phuong checked her option in the big blind.

Action was checked through the 9♠ 9♣ 8♦ 5♠ 8♥ board, with Jia revealing jack-high to take down the pot.

Final Table of the GLPC Main Event Starts Now!

After four days of intense action across five Day 1 flights, the Main Event’s initial VND 18 Billion (~US$ 683,500) guarantee soared to an impressive VND 26,985,920,000 (~US$ 1,024,095), with 198 players earning a share of the prize pool. Now, only nine players remain, each guaranteed VND 409,700,000 (~US$ 15,550), but all with their eyes on the VND 4,097,500,000 (~US$ 155,495) top prize.

Leading the pack is Van Sang Nguyen with 15,675,000 in chips. He built his stack steadily before a pivotal late-evening hand against Duc Duy Nguyen, where his king-jack found a king on the river to crack pocket jacks. Nguyen then sealed his dominance by eliminating Jun Kyu Park on the final table bubble, his ace-king overtaking Park’s pocket deuces to burst the bubble and extend his lead.

Close behind is Nguyen Thi My Phuong with 14,275,000. She surged up the leaderboard after catching Jun Kyu Park’s bluff and continued to apply pressure on the feature table. Having fallen just short of the final table at USOP Hai Phong (14th place), she’s back stronger and more determined to claim redemption and glory.

Another notable contender is Le Viet Anh, fresh off his Mini Main Event victory and now looking to complete a rare double by capturing the Main Event title as well.

Representing Ireland, Henri Hinds survived a dramatic three-way all-in, hitting a queen on the river to stay alive. With three prior final table appearances, Hinds sits comfortably with an average stack and aims to turn that experience into a championship run.

Flying the flag for the Philippines is Ferdinand Lu, who qualified twice through Flights A and D and now finds himself on the Main Event final table , another strong showing for the Filipino poker community.
