Haonan Tian Runs Away With The Lead In Flight B

Level 12: 1,500 / 3,000 ante: 3,000
Haonan Tian - Red Dragon Championship Day 1B Chip Leader

The second of five opening flights for the KR₩ 2 Billion (~$1,451,326) guaranteed RDPT Jeju II 2025 Championship is under our belts with 61 out of 234 - only one less entry than yesterday - advancing to Day 2 at the end of level 12.

China's Haonan Tian - three final tables including one win in side events this series already - is in a great spot for a deep run once again, finishing with 504,000 (164 BB) which is good for the overall lead right now. He commanded a big stack since the late stages of the late registration period, freerolled a preflop all-in with A T against Yuxiang Xie's A T and broke the tie on 4 3 J K 7 which netted him 25BB and the second place at the end of level 10. He then bulldozed through the field and almost doubled his stack in the end.

Jian Li

Second in chips Jian Li wasn't anywhere close to the top stacks throughout the day, but mounted a late charge that catapulted him from the lower mid-field into second within the last 3 levels of the day. He will start Day 2 with 442,000 (147 BB) which is good for second overall at the moment.

Yuhan Liu

Yuhan Liu - winning his second side event this series last night and already finished 12th in the Baby Dragon on Monday - is in a respectable position early on again. He has 365,000 (121 BB) to his name and will be a force to be reckoned with in Day 2.

Flight C Turbo is already in full swing and the SMP Live Updates will continue over there until the third batch of players bagged their chips for Day 2.

Interview With Day 1B And Overall Chip Leader Haonan Tian

Level 12: 1,500 / 3,000 ante: 3,000

SMP: Congrats on bagging the overall lead for now, how does it feel?

Tian: I'm very happy to be today's CL. Some luck helped as well.

SMP: What were some big hands today that got you to the top?

Tian: The first big hand was 99 to catch my opponents AK. The second time I increased the number of chips I had A T against my opponent's A T and got a flush. Another one was A 2 against the big blind with A3o, where I also got a flush and a really important one at the end was when I raised ace-jack from the button and the small blind three-bet jammed with kings and I called. I also won that race, which increased my stack by 170,000.

SMP: You already shipped a side event on Monday and had another 3rd place finish, the series seems to be going great so far?

Tian: I am very happy to have won one side event and a third and fourth place in two others. I didn't win the championship in May, but I have won the majority of my prize money in the Red Dragon Poker Tour events!

SMP: Your biggest win in our database was the 3rd place in the RDPT Dragon Egg last May for almost 50K including the bounties, what did that mean for your poker career?

Tian: The proceeds from this time have given me a lot of confidence in poker tournaments, and I have also made reasonable plans for the prize money to participate in future tournaments.

SMP: What is it about the RDPT and Jeju that lets you bring your a-game?

Tian: In Jeju Island, I think it's a place where players can devote themselves to the game, and the air here is nice and relaxing. Red Dragon Poker is also a great host, with an international professional team, a very good atmosphere, and some top players will also appear. Participating in Red Dragon is also a good opportunity to exchange and learn.

SMP: What do you like about these big field events compared to the smaller ones? You've had success in both.

Tian: I really like every event of the Red Dragon Competition, and they have introduced a lot of new events. I feel that the content of the series is getting more in line with the WSOP.

SMP: When and how did you get into poker?

Tian: I first came across Texas Hold'em on the internet in 2008, but I didn't learn it systematically, and then I started a poker club, and I found that there are still many differences between online and offline tournaments. But I started playing big tournaments in 2021, and I discovered the joy of poker even more after playing in the big tournaments.

SMP: Already having plans to play other tournaments in the coming months?

Tian: After participating in the Red Dragon this time, I was thinking about going to WPT in Thailand, but I couldn't be completely sure about the itinerary due to work. Looking forward to the next time the Red Dragon Cup will be held, I will continue to come back, because I feel that the Red Dragon will bring me good luck.

SMP: Do you play online or cash games as well?

Tian: I don't usually play cash games, because I don't think cash games are the way I want to play and think about the game, which will affect my idea of playing and lead to technical deformation. I still play online tournaments, but I prefer offline tournaments because it's more realistic.

Viktor Yugay Interview

Level 5: 300 / 600 ante: 600
Viktor Yugay

We had a little chat with Viktor Yugay a few minutes ago:

SMP: Hey, thanks for taking the time to chat with us! How has the series been so far?

Yugay: Doing not good, I busted in many tournaments.

SMP: What's your schedule and goals for the rest of the week?

Yugay: I'll try to reach Day 2 Main Event, if I bust early just jump into the KRW 12 Million high roller or play the mini main.

SMP: You have had some incredible results in the past like the EPT Cyprus Main Event 8th place for $125K. Is poker still a hobby, or do you play full time?

Yugay: I'm mostly a high stakes cash game player, tournaments are kind of just for fun.

SMP: Coming all the way from Uzbekistan, how did you hear about the RDPT?

Yugay: I live in Korea since 2012, my ethnicity is Korean I was just born in Uzbekistan. I'm playing in Jeju for tournaments since the action in cash games has slowed down.

SMP: We see quite a few Uzbek players here in Jeju, do you guys all know each other?

Yugay: Yeah we know each other, but we are not that close. We only say hi when we meet.

SMP: How is the poker scene in Uzbekistan?

Yugay: I used to play tournaments full time for a few years then back to cash games after a decent downswing. I also run a family business like bakeries.

SMP: When and how did you first get into poker?

Yugay: Uzbekistan is a Muslim country and gambling is illegal there, so only a few home games. When I came to Korea my friend offered me to visit a casino here and I saw a couple of poker tables, that's the day I started playing.

SMP: Do you watch or read any poker content online? If so, what is it?

Yugay: Yes, I do watch all the Triton stuff and some cash games. Player's streams that are not that popular, like 30-40 viewers.

SMP: Good luck for the rest of the series!

Yugay: Thanks.

Interview With New Zealand Pro Tae Hoon Han

Level 2: 200 / 300 ante: 300
Tae Hoon Han

After making it to the Baby Dragon ITM with a single 1,000 chip, we caught up with the humble Korean Born Kiwi for a little chat the day after:

SMP: How has the series been so far?

Han: I was close to breakeven at the start of the day so it's a new start for me today.

SMP: How do you like RDPT/Jeju?

Han: I like these events in Jeju. I live in Seoul so it's easier for me to come over. I guess it is the same for Chinese players as they don’t need a visa to visit Jeju. I like how the RDPT team operates, nothing to complain about tbh, so as long as they provide good room rate, I think I will come over and enjoy.

SMP: How did you get into poker?

Han: Couple of friends in Uni started to play when I was in New Zealand and I realize one guy was winning most of the money every single time so I started to play properly.

SMP: Is poker a hobby or do you play full time? How did your biggest win change your life in general?

Han: It’s hard to define pro in poker. I don’t have any other source of income, so I guess I can be considered as pro. I don’t really have big wins that changed my life dramatically so can't really finish the question. Hopefully it will come soon so I can answer this question.

SMP: How has your strategy evolved over time as you’ve become more experienced?

Han: I am way more calm and patient now and able to play hand by hand. I think not getting carried by previous hands is important in this game.

SMP: Was there a hand where you made a huge fold that saved your tournament life?

Han: Can’t really think of one. I am a huge station lol.

SMP: What do you do to stay focused and avoid tilt?

Han: Like I said above, take hand by hand and don't get carried away with the result.

SMP: If you could change one rule in poker, what would it be and why?

Han: Need drug test in poker too. Sometimes I can just tell these people are on drugs.

SMP: What's your go-to strategy when you’re on a losing streak?

Han: Play your game, don't start playing loose. Maybe can tighten up preflop a little but not too much. Try to avoid flips if it's a soft field.

SMP: What's the best poker movie or tv show and why?

Han: High stakes poker when I was new to this game. It was just fun to watch all those guys playing. Nowadays it's all boring tbh haha.

SMP: Is there any advice you can give to someone who just started their career?

Han: Don’t start this as career now unless you understand variance properly. It may look like a sunshine job, but most of players end up in a bad way.

Thank you!

Day 1B Of The Red Dragon Championship Starts At 12:00

The Red Dragon Poker Tour Jeju II 2025 continues today, July 9, at the Landing Casino inside the luxurious Jeju Shinhwa World Resort with the second of five opening flights for the KR₩ 2.5 Million (~$1,815) Red Dragon Championship with a KR₩ 2 Billion (~$1,451,326) guaranteed prize pool taking center stage again. Yesterday's Flight A had 61 out of 235 players advance to Day 2 already.

The event generated a total KR₩ 2,175,953,000 (~$1,582,120) in May, with KR₩ 360,000,000 (~$250,615) going to champion Shengfa Huang, who has already been preparing for his title defense by entering some of the early events in the past few days. With one more opening flight added this time around, these records won't be standing long. We quickly caught up with Shengfa Huang - who only learned how to play poker when the pandemic hit - during Flight A yesterday:

SMP: How has winning the RDPT Main Event impacted your career or life in general?

Huang: It doesn't have any impact. I may go out to play more games in the future.

SMP: Where did you spend your winnings?

Huang: Eat, drink, play, buy, but spent nothing really.

SMP: Did you continue playing poker after your win, or do you return to your previous life?

Huang: I continue to play poker, it is my favorite pastime.

SMP: How do you handle the pressure of playing against more experienced, professional poker players?

Huang: No pressure, because I don't know anyone.

SMP: What surprised you most about the live poker experience?

Huang: There are a lot of people playing!

Entering players have a 40,000 starting stack to work with, worth 200 times the opening blinds, intervals are at a comfortable 40 minutes and late registration will be open until the end of level 9 and the day concludes at the end of level 12.
