Chan Makes Naoki Happy with One Card Show
With almost 9,000 chips in the pot and a board of Q♦ 7♠ 9♣ T♥ , action was picked up with Tsz Him Chan betting 7,000 and Yashiro Naoki taking his time to consider his option. Finally, he called.
Chan put extreme pressure on Naoki with a 17,000 bet on the river 9♦ . Naoki, agonized the bet - leaned back and forth from his chair, removing his earphones, calling out possible hole cards then finally asked,"Do you have queen-nine?" With no reply, he continued his soliluquy until he painfully folded his hand.
Chan sympathetic, told him he could open one card, any card of his choice as he scooped the pot. Naoki chose one and saw 7♦ . He happily exclaimed, "Pocket Sevens!," and felt satisfied with his fold
Wang Must Wheel-y Like That River

Grant Wang was the first to open the action with a raise to 1,200 from the hijack. Wang found calls from King Wang Ip out of the small blind, and Yi-Jhen Ke from the big blind.
Three players saw the dealer spread out a flop of 9♦ 4♣ 5♦ . Both the blinds checked, prompting Wang to fire out a continuation-bet of 3,300. Ip pondered for quite some time before letting go of his hand, but Ke, instantly called to see a turn.
When the board-pairing 5♥ dropped on the turn Ke opted to lead out with a bet of 8,000. Wang looked over at Ke's remaining stack of roughly 28,000, before he did some inventory of his own. Eventually, he put in the call.
A seemingly meaningless 3♥ appeared on the river and Ke quickly led out again, this time for 15,000. Wang didn't hesitate to match her bet and was shown trips by Ke with 6♥ 5♠ . To the surprise of Ke, Wang flipped over A♣ 2♣ for a rivered straight, and the pot was sent to him.

The Evolution of the APT Taipei Super High Roller from 2024 to 2025

The APT Taipei Super High Roller has quickly established itself as one of the most prestigious events on the Asian Poker Tour calendar.
Attracting a mix of seasoned professionals and high-stakes enthusiasts from across the globe, the event continues to grow both in terms of participation and prize pool.
The 2024 edition saw impressive performances from some of the most prominent names in the game, while the 2025 edition raised the stakes significantly, with a larger buy-in, prize pool, and deeper field of competition.
Below, we dive into a detailed comparison of the two events, highlighting what changed and what made the 2025 edition stand out.
The 2024 APT Taipei Super High Roller
The 2024 event began with a buy-in of TWD 300,000 (~USD 9,414), attracting a field of 81 entries (57 unique). This generated a TWD 22,392,450 (~USD 709,295) prize pool, with the winner set to claim TWD 9,089,650 (~USD 265,856), a life-changing payout for any poker player.
Phanlert Sukonthachartnant from Thailand took home the title after and TWD 5,793,950 (~$183,385) after striking a deal heads-up.
Sukonthachartnant bested a highly competitive final table, where he faced off against Thanisorn Saelor, also from Thailand, in a heads-up battle. The final moments were intense, as both players dispalyed what poker skills they had in their repertoire.
Sukonthachartnant’s victory was not just a testament to his skill but also to his ability to adapt to a fast-paced final table filled with some of the best around.
The 2024 event showcased excellent poker action, with several key moments of aggression and strategic plays that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
Notable players such as Mikael Andersson and Punnat Punsri also made deep runs, adding excitement to the tournament and demonstrating the strong competitive spirit that the APT Taipei Super High Roller has become known for.

The 2025 APT Taipei Super High Roller
The 2025 edition took things to the next level, both in terms of buy-in and prize pool. The buy-in increased to TWD 330,000 (~USD 10,300), reflecting both the event’s growing prestige and the higher stakes on offer.
This increase in buy-in was matched by a surge in participation, with 122 entries (83 unique) competing for a share of the TWD 37,040,420 (~USD 1,143,223). These increase meant the winner was set to walk away with a staggering TWD 9,580,920 (~USD 284,905).
In terms of notable players, the 2025 edition attracted a star-studded field, including Minh Quang from Vietnam, who claimed the title and his first Pewter Lion Trophy.
Minh's remarkable comeback was demonstratedby his composure under pressure. He manoeuvred his short stack up the pay jumps initially before dominating proceedings three-handed.
On the final table, Quang outlasted APT's biggest earner Joseph Cheong, as well as high roller runner-up regular Alexander Lynskey. Matthew Belcher and the start of final table chip leader Christopher Park were also unable to match Quang's performance.
Minh's performance was exceptional, and his win was well-deserved, as he demonstrated both patience and an ability to read the table. His success was a clear indicator that the level of competition had only gotten stronger, with experienced players battling in the hopes to etch their names in the APT history books.

Rising Prestige of APT Taipei Super High Roller
Both the 2024 and 2025 editions of the APT Taipei Super High Roller showcased the very best in poker action, and smashed their guarantees.
While the 2024 event helped establish the tournament as a premier stop on the poker circuit, the 2025 event took the competition to new realms.
With an increased buy-in, larger first-place prize, and tougher field dynamics, the 2025 edition solidified its position as one of the most prestigious poker tournaments in Asia.
The 2025 edition’s increased prize pool, higher payout structure, and the competition’s evolution demonstrate the growing significance of the APT Taipei Super High Roller in the global poker scene.
It’s clear that, as the event continues to develop, it will attract even more of the top players and continue to be a must-attend for anyone serious about high-stakes poker.
We look ahead to future events, the APT Super High Roller remains an event not to be missed for any competitive poker player, providing them with the chance to broadcast their poker abilities to the outside world.
