Biography & Poker Background
Rubie is an Australian professional who became a fixture in major live fields across both the domestic Australian circuit and at the WSOP in Las Vegas. He emerged as a rising talent in 2012 when he reached his first WSOP bracelet final table - a $2,500 Four-Handed NLH event - before finishing runner-up to Canadian Timothy Adams for $242,458. That became one of two WSOP final table appearances to deny him gold.
The following year at WSOP APAC in Melbourne at Crown Casino , he eliminated Jason Gray during the final table before himself being eliminated third by eventual champion Aaron Lim - again agonisingly short of his biggest prize. He also finished runner-up to Luke Edwards at the WSOPC Sydney in 2013.
Redemption arrived in 2014 at the same event. Arriving on Day 2 with 34 runners remaining and a strong stack, he told reporters afterwards that he knew from that moment the title was his. He navigated to heads-up against Sam Higgs and closed it out - his queens flopping a set against Higgs’ jacks to seal the title and $271,952. “I knew I could win but I was still really grateful,” he said. “Making it to the final table is always such a luxury.”
Play Style & Strategy
Rubie is a technically disciplined player who performs at his best in short-handed formats and under late-stage pressure - his four-handed NLH runner-up and six-max APAC appearance reflect a player who excels when fields thin and decision-making becomes more consequential per hand.

Originally from the Lake District, UK, I’ve spent the last few years living and breathing the Southeast Asian poker circuit. Since 2025, I’ve been a fixture on the floor at the APT, PokerStars, and WSOP events, serving as a lead reporter and media specialist for Somuchpoker. My work is about more than just recording action; I manage the social media and digital content that brings action rail to the fans. By combining a business education and creative background, I aim to look past the technical hand histories to capture the actual human grit and drama that happens during a deep run.
