Yeu Wei Hsiang - SOMUCHPOKER
Malaysia’s poker professional Yeu Wei Hsiang probably adapts the idiom “quality over quantity” in his gaming schedule. In the first 35 live events he has played, spread over nine years, Hsiang has amassed a total career earnings of $1,397,085. More than half of that total cash was pocketed from playing the Triton Poker Series and a considerable amount from his regular success in the Asian circuit’s new kid on the block, the Poker Dream Tour with multiple titles under his belt from victories in Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia.
Yeu Wei Hsiang’s early poker years from 2011-2014 saw him play exclusively in the Macau circuit where he left an impression at the Macau Poker Cup and Asia Pacific Poker Tour. His most notable success came at the latter when in 2013, Hsiang finished second in the Warm-Up Event of the APPT Asia Championship for his first six-figure cash of $ 150,882. He replicated the feat the following year at the 2014 APPT Macau in a similar Warm-Up event for $ 26,883. In 2018, Yeu Wei Hsiang discovered the excitement of the Short Deck play at the Jeju Red Dragon 2018, finishing 3rd and banking his second six-figure prize of $ 100,474. Hsiang also made a final table finish in the NLH High Roller Event for an additional $ 73,864. The Malaysian then found a higher poker gear the following year, playing the high roller scene at the Triton Poker Series. This proved to be a turning point in his career as Yeu Wei Hsiang went toe-to-toe with the world’s most talented poker players and finished at an impressive second place at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju in his first go and playing in his new favorite Short Deck-Ante Only Event. Hsiang only lost to the world’s second ranked in the All-Time Money List, U.S.A.’s Justin Bonomo ‘ZeeJustin’. A remarkable feat in itself and was rewarded with his career best cash to date of $420,473. Though, like many poker professionals, the Malaysian saw his momentum stopped because of the global pandemic. He would only return to live tournament play in 2022.
In July 2022, Yeu Wei Hsiang joined the inaugural Poker Dream Tour series in Malaysia. He finished second at the High Roller Event of the Poker Dream Malaysia 2022, Kuala Lumpur for $ 51,348. Hsiang’s entry to the new tournament series would provide the Malaysian a new and most productive hunting ground. A few months later Hsiang shipped his first ever title at the Short Deck Ante Event of the Poker Dream Dream 2022 Vietnam scooping $ 72,434 in prize money. He outlasted Hong Kong’s Co Chung Chuen after a brutal 10-hour final table battle. He would carry enough momentum into the 2023 for another memorable year.
2023 saw Yeu Wei Hsiang perform well at the Poker Dream Tour and Triton Series. In March, Hsiang went deep at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Vietnam, placing 5th in the Short Deck Event to pocket $53,200. This was his second cash in the high stakes tour. This would provide impetus for twin titles in Poker Dream Manila and Vietnam editions. In May, You Wei Hsiang won his second title at the Poker Dream Manila 2023 – Single Day High Roller Event for $ 48,046. He then followed this up with title number 3 at Poker Dream 7 Vietnam in his favorite Short Deck-Ante Only Event for a $ 22,052 cash. Hsiang also made two final table finishes in the Single Day High Roller Event for $ 21,035 plus the Super High Roller Event for $ 88,327. His total take home cash prize amounted to more than $130,000 for this tournament alone. The year would be his second most productive since his breakthrough 2019 season, accumulating a total of $ 266,901 in prize winnings.
In 2024, Yeu Wei Hsiang maintained his fine performance at the Triton Series, cashing in two events at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju for a combined total of $84,500. The Poker Dream Series also continued to be a favorite stop, producing a final table finish at the High Roller Event of the Poker Dream 9 Malaysia for $ 47,438. Then a few months later Hsiang shipped the Mystery Bounty High Roller Event of the Poker Dream 11 Malaysia for his career fourth brand title, and a top prize of $57,380.
