The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is built on legacy and the “truth of the game.” However, a recent attempt to celebrate that history ended in disaster. The WSOP scandal is especially unexpected due to the well known integrity of the brand. The highly anticipated poker documentary series, “No Limit,” was pulled from YouTube in November 2025 after a shocking discovery: the filmmaker used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to fake the voices and quotes of poker’s biggest stars.

Alan Keating Blows the Whistle

The drama started when high-stakes fan favorite Alan Keating watched the latest episodes. Keating, who was a featured player in the series, noticed something was wrong immediately. He heard himself saying things in the documentary that he never actually said.

Keating took to X (formerly Twitter) to call out the production for “putting words in his mouth” using AI. He specifically highlighted in his (now deleted) post two moments where his voice was used to say things he didn’t agree with:

The “Checkers” Quote: An AI-generated Keating voice was heard saying, “I would compare it [tournaments] like chess and checkers. Tournaments are more like checkers to me.”

The “Cash Game” Quote: A fake clip of him asking, “Is this over? Can I go find a cash game now?”

Keating’s public call-out was the spark that brought the whole production down. He made it clear that he never gave consent for his voice to be synthesized or for his actual interviews to be “mashed up” into new, fake sentences.

The Poker Community Reacts

The backlash was swift and severe. Other players and industry voices joined Keating in condemning the use of “deepfake” technology in a documentary.

Daniel Negreanu : As the leading ambassador for the game, Negreanu was vocal about the need for integrity. He expressed disappointment that a documentary, which should be a factual record, would use AI to fabricate dialogue. He supported Keating’s stance, noting that if players’ voices can be faked, the entire project loses its value.

Daniel Strelitz : The pro was even more blunt, calling the fabrication of quotes “obscene.”

Adam Hendrix : He referred to the incident as “terrifying,” pointing out that this technology makes it impossible to know what is real anymore in poker media.

The Creator’s Apology about the WSOP Scandal

The film’s creator, Dustin Iannotti, eventually issued an apology on X. He admitted that the production team used AI for about 10 seconds of audio across two episodes to “fill gaps” in the narrative.

In his now-deleted post, Iannotti admitted to using AI to “amalgamate” Keating’s thoughts into single quotes, but apologized for not consulting him first.

“I want to offer a sincere apology to Alan Keating. It was never my intention to misrepresent him. We used AI to bridge a gap in the narrative, but I realize now that was a mistake. We are working with the WSOP to fix this and ensure the integrity of the project.”

The WSOP Hits the “Delete” Button

The WSOP acted fast. They released their own official statement on X, apologizing to the players and the fans.

All six aired episodes were immediately deleted from WSOP’s YouTube channel. The WSOP has promised to re-edit the series to remove every trace of AI-generated content before re-releasing it.

Why This Matters: You Can’t Bluff History

This scandal is a massive warning for the future of poker media. While AI tools are becoming common, the poker world has shown it has zero tolerance for “fake” history. Whether it’s at the table or on the screen, honesty is the only way to win.
