2026 WSOP – Moment of the Day – 21 June – Player in Fur

This will be an unusual edition of Moment of the Day in our WSOP 2026 series, as it was impossible to pick only one moment to show about this topic. Today’s “moment” is not about a massive bad beat, an unreasonable verbal fight , or a new bracelet winner . It is about someone who does the most important thing: saves a life, if necessary. It might be surprising, but this is a medical service dog at the poker table. Ready to be flooded with absolute cuteness?
The Vital Role of a Service Dog at WSOP
If you follow the popular Instagram account @best_toy_poodle (medical service dog of A Jay Allee), you already know that life-saving medical assistance doesn’t always come in a large package. This incredibly smart toy poodle has captured the poker community’s attention at WSOP 2026, proving that small dogs can do very serious work at the tables.

Having a service dog at WSOP (World Series of Poker) tournaments is about much more than having a cute companion on the rail – it is about essential medical support. Toy poodles are ranked among the most intelligent dog breeds in the world. They are highly alert, easily trained, and perfectly suited for complex tasks like medical alerting, retrieving dropped items, or interrupting harmful anxiety responses.
For a handler navigating the grueling hours, bright lights, and intense pressure of a massive poker tournament, this little dog’s presence is a game-changer. The poodle’s specialized training allows the player to remain safe, focused, and completely independent, making the game truly accessible. Medical service dogs are trained to monitor their owners’ potential health risks based on their owners’ medical conditions. They are fully capable of reminding them to take their medications and alerting them to irregular blood sugar levels or approaching seizures.
Basic Casino Rules for Service Animals
While the famous toy poodle from @best_toy_poodle easily wins hearts, he is not simply a dog at the poker table; his presence also serves as a great reminder of how casinos handle accessibility. If you are bringing a service dog to Las Vegas , here are the general rules:
- Full Public Access: Under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), properly trained service dogs are allowed in all public areas, including busy poker rooms, dining spots, and tournament floors.
- Proper Control: The dog must be housebroken and under the handler’s control at all times. This typically means using a leash or harness, unless the device interferes with the dog’s medical task.
- Allowed Staff Questions: Casino staff may not request medical documentation or require a demonstration of the dog’s skills. They are only allowed to ask if the dog is required because of a disability, and what specific task it is trained to perform.
- Emotional Support Limits: Emotional support or comfort dogs do not qualify as ADA service animals and are generally not permitted on the casino floor.
My journey in the world of poker (and later casino, sportsbetting) started more than 20 years ago, when I first attended a low-stakes live tournament. I’ve never looked back since, and have been active in several fields, including being a poker player, a live tournament director, writing online and offline articles about poker, and managing the localization of one of the world's largest online poker rooms. Poker is my home ground, I could never imagine doing a job that is not a part of it. I hope someday I’ll have more time to play live; that's something I've missed in the past few years. A game where luck meets skill - what would be more interesting?
