Michael Rocco’s Journey: From Poker to Regenerative Farming

Have you ever hit a massive winning streak and thought about walking away for good? That is exactly what one famous professional poker player decided to do. The story of Michael Rocco is completely different from your usual casino tale.
Before the WSOP 2024 events began, he was already planning his grand exit. He wanted to leave the stressful world of high stakes poker far behind him. However, the cards had one last incredible surprise waiting for him.
Winning the Ultimate Prize at the World Series of Poker
For years, Michael Rocco competed against the sharpest minds in the game. As a dedicated pro poker player, he was known for making deep runs in tournaments. But he always seemed to just miss out on the final, ultimate prize.
During WSOP 2024, everything finally clicked perfectly. Reflecting on his amazing victory, he said:
“I had set out to really try to bring my best performance to that summer [2024], and I feel like I did a pretty good job of doing that, even though, of course, I made tons of mistakes along the way. To win that tournament at the end was super sweet. I was lucky enough to have my efforts pay off.”
Winning that WSOP bracelet was the perfect ending he always wanted. He proved he could beat the game at the highest level. With his new WSOP bracelet in hand, he packed up his chips and went home.

The Life of Michael Rocco Away from the Tables
Today, the 36-year-old lives a life that looks nothing like a loud Las Vegas casino. He swapped the neon lights of high stakes poker for the quiet peace of agriculture. Instead of reading opponents, he now reads the weather and the soil.
He took over land that had been sprayed with synthetic chemicals for four decades, and he is working hard to fix it. He explained his new mission clearly:
“We practice regenerative farming, so we’re looking to build the biology in our soil and restore the health of the land we work on.”
What his farm produces daily:
- Avocado Trees: Around 600 mature avocado trees ready for wholesale markets.
- Tropical Fruits: Between 200 and 300 trees growing fresh mangoes, bananas, and papayas.
- Fresh Vegetables: A quarter-acre garden packed with peppers, tomatoes, onions, and asparagus.
The farm also has roughly 30 bee colonies and some livestock. But not everything on the property is perfect.
“There are five goats. They’re very annoying. I wouldn’t recommend them.” Rocco laughed.
True Freedom Beyond the WSOP
You might wonder why someone used to millions in prize money would choose hard physical labor. The transition makes perfect sense when you realize he loves studying complex systems.
At the card tables, you study odds, hand ranges, and betting patterns. On the farm, he studies nature and the earth.
“Having a deeper relationship to living systems is what inspires me,” he noted about his new passion.
Poker gave him the money to buy his freedom, but farming gave him true independence. He no longer relies entirely on grocery stores or power grids to survive.
Will He Ever Return to the Card Room?
Even though he loves his farm, Michael Rocco has not completely closed the door on playing cards. In fact, he quietly returned to the World Series of Poker Main Event recently, making a solid run before finishing 790th for $22,500. It proves that the sharp instincts of a professional poker player never truly fade away.
However, his mindset is totally different today. He admits it is very tough to balance his demanding farm duties with high stakes poker because he only wants to play when he is fully prepared and at his absolute peak. He still enjoys the game, but it no longer controls his daily life. Summing up his beautiful new life, he stated:
“I feel more fulfilled than I have ever before.”
Until then, leaving the game on top was the best decision he ever made. Having a young family has lightened his mood, giving him a fresh, happy perspective on what truly matters.
