Joris Michl Bags Korea Poker Cup Main Event Title; Chen Yu Hung Wins Jeju Cup
Joris Michl of the Netherlands outlasted 530 players, who ponied up KRW 1,600,000 (~USD 1,145) for a seat at the Korea Poker Cup Main Event and a chance to take home a share from the KRW 1,000,000,000 (~USD 718,110) guaranteed prize pool. Michl played through four days of poker and took home the KPC Main Event Trophy and the grand cash prize of KRW 190,000,000 (~USD 136,410), marking his biggest career live cash.
This win is also Michl’s first major live championship, confessing that his only other big win was an online event many years ago.
“It feels really good. I finally won a big one in live poker. It’s been a long grind to finally win a big one, so I’m very happy,” Michl explained when asked about his reaction after the win.
When asked how he will spend his winnings, Michl explained, “I’m going to buy a mountain bike because I need a new one and then of course celebrate with some friends. Then, I will add to my bankroll.“
Michl plans to play more events at Jeju throughout the week, then fly to Vietnam for the U Series of Poker Hai Phong Grand Finale and maybe end the year playing World Poker Tour events in Las Vegas, USA.
The Final Table
Eight players came back to Landing Casino, Jeju Shinhwa World Resort for the KPC Main Event’s Day 4 Final to compete at the final table.
Xiao Lu of China was the first casualty at the final table. Lu made an untimely shove with his shortest stack, running into two callers with better hands to send him out at 8th place and a loot bag of KRW 20,700,000 (~USD 14,860).
Jianwei Lin of China entered the final table fifth in the chip count, but couldn’t win any flip, sending him into a spiral until his eventual bust out at 7th place. Lin earned a share of KRW 30,000,000 (~USD 21,540) for his efforts.
The next casualty was China’s Jianfeng Sun, who started the day with the fourth biggest stack before some unlucky beats crippled him. Sun’s final hand ran into a wall of kings that sent him to the rail in 6th place, taking home a payout of KRW 40,000,000 (~USD 28,720) and pushing his total live earnings to over USD 650,000.
Yi Ma of China couldn’t get much going even after a double-up. His short-stack push with Ace-Queen was dominated by the Big Slick of Joris Michl to give him a 5th place exit. At least, it was a step up from when he started the final table ranked 6th in chips. Ma earned KRW 51,000,000 (~USD 36,615) to push his total live earnings closer to the USD 500,000 milestone
Changyang Liu of China made a good run to come up from a short stacked seventh in chips entering the final table to muster a 4th place finish and earn KRW 65,000,000 (~USD 46,670). Liu was the last Chinese contender at the final table to bust out and pushed his winnings over the USD 250,000 mark.
Cheng Lo of Taiwan started the final table with the biggest chip stack, but could only take it as far as a 3rd place finish. Lo was rewarded KRW 83,900,000 (~USD 60,240) and made his biggest live career cash today.
Heads Up
Joris Michl entered the heads-up battle against Taiwan’s Wei Chen Lin with a slight advantage, but Lin was able to chip away from Michl to gain a three-to-one advantage before the break. During the break, Michl confessed to seeking advice from good friend Yita Choong and they were able to review some footage from the delayed live stream.
“I was able to adapt and adjust my play and that gave me an advantage,” confessed Michl.
True enough, after the break and after nearly three hours of heads-up battle, Michl was able to make a comeback. Of course, luck with the poker gods also played a crucial role when Michl caught a miracle straight on the river to save him from elimination, and give him a two-to-one chip lead. Michl didn’t look back after that and finally ended Wei Chen Lin’s journey as a runner-up when Lin couldn’t catch the same miracle river for a straight to overtake Michl’s top two-pair. Wei Chen Lin bagged a second place prize.of KRW 117,500,000 (~USD 84,360) for his biggest career cash and pushing his total live earnings to nearly USD 150,000.
Congratulations to all the winners!

Chen Yu Hung Wins Jeju Cup
A total of 297 hopefulsbought a seat for KRW 1,200,000 (~USD 850) to take part in the Jeju Cup and fight for a share from the KRW 311,137,200 (~USD 222,680) prize pool.
The top 38 contenders made it into the payout circle, but it was Chen Yu Hung, who won the biggest share as the Jeju Poker Cup champion.
In the final heads-up play, Chen Yu Hung had a dominating stack of 6,525,000 and pressured Tom Henricus Verbruggen’s short stack of 700,000.
With nearly 90% of the chips in play stacked up by Hung’s side and the blinds at 100,000/200,000 with an ante of 200,000, Verbruggen had no choice but to risk his tournament life with 10♣4♣ against the dominating K♥J♦ of Hung.
The flop of K♦4♦J♣ two-paired Hung. The A♥ on the turn gave Verbruggen a gut-shot straight if a queen appeared on the river. However, the poker gods threw an 8♥ instead to send Verbruggen out on 2nd place and crown Chen Yu Hung as the Jeju Poker Cup champion.
Tom Henricus Verbruggen took home a runner-up payout of KRW 43,840,000 (~USD 31,300) while Chen Yu Hung brought home the Jeju Poker Cup trophy and a champion’s top prize of KRW 65,900,000 (~USD 47,100).
