2021 WSOP bracelet winners: Brian Hastings, Denis Strebkov, Chad Himmelspach, Paulo Joanello, Aleksejs Ponakovs, Yuliyan Kolev
Now that the Main Event excitement has cooled we jump back to the other events where four players have secured bracelets on the live stage and two at online platform WSOP.com. The latest champions were Brian Hastings for his fifth career gold strap, Denis Strebkov for his second, and one each for Chad Himmelspach, Paulo Joanello, Aleksejs “APonakov” Ponakovs, and Yuliyan “Dr.Feelg00da” Kolev. Brief recaps of the winners down below.
The ongoing series is in its final week with games running through November 23. Out of the 88 bracelet events, only 11 have yet to be captured at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino plus two at online platform WSOP.com. In the WSOP Player of the Year race, Josh Arieh and Dylan Linde continue to hold the top two spots. Arieh also matched up to both Phil Hellmuth and Jake Schwartz with the most final tables of five each. Koray Aldemir zoomed into third rank after his huge victory at the Main Event. Leaderboard update can be found in the middle of the page.
Event #73: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Championship – BRIAN HASTINGS – US$ 352,958
As with a majority of the $10,000 buy in non-hold’em bracelet events, the Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Championship drew a tight field populated with highly decorated pros. 144 entered for a prize pool of US$ 1,342,800. Once the final table was reached, nearly every player was a bracelet winner with the exception of Ian O’Hara who hoped to change that status in this event. However, it wasn’t to be. Despite bringing in the biggest stack at heads up, Brian Hastings came from behind to claim the title, the US$ 352,958 first prize, and his fifth career gold bracelet. Hastings took down this same event back in 2015. As for runner up O’Hara, he had to settle for a WSOP career high payout of US$ 218,144.
Taking a look at Hastings’ past wins, he secured his first bracelet back in 2012 at the $10K Heads Up NLH Championship and pocketed US$ 371,498 which remains his largest WSOP score to date. In 2015 he took down two events, the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship and the $1,500 10-Game Mix. Then in 2018, he locked up his fourth gold at the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. event. The latest win boosted the champ’s WSOP total earnings to over US$ 3 Million.
On a brief rundown of the final table, seven out of the remaining ten players were multi finalists. Among them, John Monnette was on his third final table while two time series winner Josh Arieh was on his fifth. Arieh joined Phil Hellmuth and Jake Schwartz with the most final tables in this series at five a piece. After the fall of Arieh in 10th place, both Monnette and Yuval Bronshtein hoped to become the next two time series winner but instead fell short. Bronshtein went the farthest, falling in 3rd place. Also denied was 9x bracelet winner Erik Seidel who couldn’t turn his buy in to gold, bowing out in 7th place. With Hastings‘ victory, he joined Shaun Deeb and Brian Rast as the third player to win his fifth career gold bracelet at the ongoing series.

Event #75: $1,500 Freezeout NL Hold’em – CHAD HIMMELSPACH – US$ 270,877
The $1,500 Freezeout No Limit Hold’em attracted 1,191 players for a prize pool of US$ 1,589,985. After three days of play, Chad Himmelspach emerged victorious, coming back from a 10 BB versus 88 BB against Stefan Reiser at heads up to claim his first gold bracelet and a career high payout of US$ 270,877.
Recapping the action, at the end of Day 1, Himmelspach was down to just 10 BB while the player up top, Renmei Liu, was beefed up with 89 BB. Before the end of Day 2, the money was reached with Asians Kartik Ved (22nd), Jun Obara (92nd), Jinho Hong (137th), Makoto Yoshimichi (150th), and Yoongwon Woo (157th) earning a piece. The final table was formed with Liu still the player to catch, 4x bracelet winner Asi Moshe was the only WSOP decorated player, and Himmelspach tied with Nicholas Hubers at the bottom. Entering Day 3, only 8 were left. Moshe was already out in 10th place and Louison Vincent 9th. Himmelspach was ranked fourth and proceeded to rail both Tarun Gulati in 7th place and Liu in 3rd place to bring in an over 2:1 chip advantage against Reiser at heads up.
Despite the lead, seizing the title proved to be difficult. After Reiser recovered on a failed bluff by Himmelspach, he turned the counts, driving his stack to 88 BB while simultaneously sending Himmelspach down to just 10 BB. However, he too was unable to close it out. Himmelspach charged back up and went on to claim the dream gold. Like Himmelspach, Reiser pocketed his largest known live score of US$ 167,418.

Event #77: $1,500 FIFTY STACK NL Hold’em – PAULO JOANELLO – US$ 321,917
Brazil got on the bracelet board after Paulo Joanello conquered Event #77: $1,500 FIFTY STACK NL Hold’em for his first gold bracelet and career high payout of US$ 321,917. Joanello outlasted the 1,501 entry field, besting Toby Price after a roller coaster heads up match. While this was the first for Brazil in this series, it was their 16th in total. Interviewed by PokerNews, Joanello said,
“When he came back in heads-up, I thought I was going to lose. But I looked at the bracelet and my rail and I said “No” this is going to Brazil and these people and I’m very happy.”
The two day event closed Day 1 with 226 players remaining led by bracelet winner Ryan Depaulo who went on to finish in 37th place. Other players in the money were Asians Inkyu Choi (22nd), Raghav Bansal (30th), Hogyun Kang (52nd), Shohei Miyazaki (78th), Seungyeol Kim (85th), Carlos Chang (105th), Sriharsha Doddapaneni (135th), Makoto Yoshimichi (148th), Keiichi Funakura (156th), and Ken Inagaki (213th). The fast paced event final table was formed with 2x bracelet winner Elio Fox, bracelet winner John Gorsuch, 2x ring winner Roongsak Griffeth, and ring winner Scott Hall in the lineup.
At the fall of Martin Bicanik to Joanello in 3rd place, the Brazilian carried in a stack well over 2:1 at heads up against Price. What followed was a barrage of big exchanges that saw the chip lead flip multiple times. Joanello was finally able to nail it shut with higher two pair over on a board .
