Thrills, Bubble Drama; TMT Main Event Day 1A Concludes with Tzu Ching Wang Leads the Charge

The very first opening flight of the highly anticipated TWD 9,000 Main Event lit up the atmosphere inside the iconic Red Space. After more than 11 hours of action, the room erupted time and again with thrilling hands and tense showdowns.

Players battled through nineteen gruelling 30-minute levels, and when the dust settled, just 74 survivors remained to bag chips for Day 2.

Standing above the rest on the leaderboard is Taiwan’s Tzu Ching Wang, who navigated a massive 923-entry field to finish the day with 859,000 chips, firmly securing the overall chip lead.

Momentum continued to build as Day 1B kicked off this afternoon, drawing 447 entries by the end of the session and pushing the combined field to an impressive 1,370 entries. With Day 1B still in progress, the remaining players are now fighting to thin the field down to 68 who will secure a share of the prize pool, while the top 36 will punch their tickets to Day 2.

Behind Wang is his countryman Bo Han Chen with a hefty stack of 782,000, while rounding out the top three is Japan's Tadashi Saegusa with 758,000 chips.

Day 1A Highlights

Soft bubble time began in Level 16 when the field was trimmed down to 141 players, but it did little to slow the pace. Far from tightening up, the remaining players stayed aggressive, and one breathtaking showdown followed another.

The soft bubble eventually burst with Taiwan’s Jiunyao Tsai on the wrong end of the cooler, finding himself at risk against Japan’s Tadashi Saegusa. Tsai’s big slick looked well-positioned for a crucial double-up against Saegusa’s seven-four offsuit. However, luck is also a form of strength in poker, and the goddess of fortune smiled on Saegusa as the flop delivered trip fours, ending Tsai’s run in brutal fashion.

Jiunyao Tsai

The player left with the most unwanted title of the day was Taiwan’s Wu Hsiao Hsiung. Hsiung shoved with pocket aces and was called by Jung Tu Huang, who held pocket nines. The board ran out clean through the turn, and it looked like Hsiung was set for a safe double-up.

But in the cruelest twist, Huang spiked one of his only two outs on the river, hitting a nine to crack Hsiung’s bullets in ruthless fashion. Hsiung was eliminated on the spot, earning the unenviable title of the day: Bubble Boy.

Action resumed, and the field was whittled down at a brisk pace. Within an hour, the Day 2 soft bubble was reached. The night ended for Taiwan’s Yanfu Chen, who became the final casualty among the remaining 75 players.

Chen shoved with king-jack, only to run headfirst into Tsu Chi Chou’s pocket queens. The deck offered no miracles for the short-stacked contender this time, and just like that, Chen fell one spot shy of Day 2.
