Ori Kossonogi Wins the CTP PS Superstar Challenge for NTD 1,558,000 (~$47,630)
Ori Kossonogi has claimed victory in the NTD 66,000 CTP PS Superstar Challenge, securing the impressive top prize of NTD 1,558,000. The final hand saw Kossonogi complete a runner-runner flush with T♠ 6♠, overcoming Martin Gonzales's K♥ 2♦ on a board of 2♥ 8♠ Q♣ 5♠ K♠, eliminating Gonzales in runner-up position.
“Feels very good, runs very well. Feels good to win a tournament, especially big ones like this,” replied Kossonogi when asked about his feelings after winning the event and earning the title of Superstar.
Kossonogi began the final table as the chip leader and maintained his momentum throughout. “I try to apply pressure when I have the chance and follow my instincts,” he said. One of his key eliminations came against Jason Lau, where his A♣ K♠ outperformed Lau’s K♣ J♠ on a board of 5♣ 6♣ A♠ 2♠ J♣.
“I try to use my brain, my heart, and my gut feeling combined to make it work,” Kossonogi added. His sharp decision-making was evident as he knocked out Kristof Segers at the final table with pocket jacks against Segers’ ace-five on a clean runout of 7♠ 2♦ 8♣ T♠ T♥.
When asked if any players particularly concerned him, Kossonogi said, “I think my last two opponents, Kristof and Martin, were playing very strong.” as expected, Martin Gonzales advanced to the final heads-up against Kossonogi. However, within just five hands, Kossonogi secured the victory, sending Gonzales to the rail and claiming the championship title with a flush.
It was when Gonzales said, ‘Oh shit.’ That’s when I knew it was the last one," replied Kossonogi when asked about the particular moment he realized he was going to win.
Regarding his future plans, Kossonogi mentioned that the TMT Series in January might be his next stop. For now, after this series, he plans to celebrate his victory by taking a hot shower and enjoying a well-deserved rest.
