High above the clouds at Genting Highlands, Event #51: Super High Roller attracted a who's who of high-stakes regulars, all looking to secure their place in Poker Dream history. After two full days of action, Yohei Kitazato outlasted a 61-entry field and defeated seasoned veteran Tuck Wai Foo heads-up to claim the Poker Dream Super High Roller title for MYR 303,000 (~USD 75,750), along with the coveted Gold Dragon Trophy.
Having started his poker journey just "three or four" years ago, Kitazato has quickly made a name for himself on the Asian tournament circuit. In that short span, the 46-year-old Japanese publisher has amassed more than $500,000 in live tournament earnings and, with today's victory, now owns three Poker Dream titles.
"My main work is publishing," Kitazato shared with Poker Dream host Veronica shortly after winning. "I own my own publishing company. I'm not a pro player... I'm just a champion."
When asked if he thought he was going to win, having entered Day 2 with the chip lead, Kitazato explained he had "no choice."
"I lost so much playing flipouts! I also bought too many Pokémon cards, I had no other way other than to win the prize for first place. My debt on my credit card is like twice as much as the prize of this [win]!" Kitazato said with a laugh.
The victory also served as redemption after Kitazato finished third in the last Poker Dream Super High Roller he played at PD 23 in Taipei.
"I just want to say thank you so much [to my supporters] for cheering and escorting and everything. Now I have three [Poker Dream] dragons. This one is the father!"
