After eight hours of intense poker action, the Taiwan Open Day 1A concluded with 11 players advancing to Day 2 from a field of 107 entrants.

Leading the Day 1A survivors is Eugene Zhou, the Poker Dream Player of the Year 2025 and the current frontrunner in the DPOY 2026 race, who bagged an impressive 433,000 chips heading into Day 2.

Close behind is Billy Jazha Alfonso, who endured one of the most dramatic moments of the day after narrowly surviving the money bubble before mounting a late comeback to finish with 328,000 chips.

Also advancing are Shao-Chien Peng with 262,000, Han Spencer Lim with 242,000, and Yin Kwan Chim with 236,000, all well-positioned for a deep run when play resumes.

Rounding out the notable stacks is Meng Wee Lim, whose elimination of the bubble player secured the remaining survivors a payday. The bubble-buster bagged 179,000 chips and will return for Day 2 looking to build on his momentum.

Dream Bonus

The Poker Dream 23 Taiwan Open is one of the events where players can earn extra rewards by qualifying for multiple Day 2 bags.

The first bag guarantees an ITM finish and activates the Dream Bonus. Bagging a second stack earns a TWD 16,200 Dream Bonus, plus an additional TWD 810 for every 10,000 chips bagged. Any third or subsequent bag increases the reward to a TWD 32,400 Dream Bonus, plus TWD 1,350 for every 10,000 chips bagged. On Day 2, you'll play only your largest stack, while the bonuses from your extra bags are paid out separately.

Beng Hong Ker entered the final two tables as chip leader and in two big hands, he crashed out while his nemesis Eugene Zhou soared to the top of the counts.

The first hand was an incredibly lucky one for Zhou who was all in for his tournament life.

The flop T♦ 6♣ Q♦ increased Zhou's outs to seven then increased again when the turn landed 8♦ for the flush draw. The river 3♦ drew an eruption of celebration from Zhou with the flush completed as Ker shook his head in disbelief.

Ker dropped down to 9 big blinds and shoved soon after with A♦ 9♦. Zhou called with 7♦ 7♥. A seven found the flop and by the turn, Ker was drawing dead to fall just three spots to the money.

The flop came A♠ 8♥ 5♥. Eugene checked to the preflop 3-better, and Lim immediately moved all in, putting maximum pressure on his opponent. After taking some time to consider his options, Eugene elected to fold, surrendering the pot to Lim Han Spencer without a showdown.
