Main Event (1,600,000 KRW)

The first of 11 starting flights has concluded here at the Poker Dream Jeju 16 Main Event hosted at Jeju Shinhwa Landing Casino in Jeju Island, South Korea. Day 1a attracted 71 entrants and by the end of the night just 9 players remained.

Changmin Zhu finished with the Day 1a chip lead after bagging 440,000 chips. Zhu is most closely followed by Biao Guo (270,000) while Sun Qi rounds out the top three with 247,000.

Day 1b is currently underway at the time of writing while two more starting flights are scheduled tomorrow. Day 1c starts at 1:00 p.m. local time with a buy-in of KRW 2,400,000 (~1,700 USD) and 40-minute levels. Later that evening at 7:00 p.m. Day 1d takes place, featuring the same structure as Flight A with 30 minute levels and a buy-in of KRW 1,600,000 (~USD 1,100).

Jiaxin Wang opened to 6,000 from the hijack, Qi Sun called from the cutoff and Bin Leng defended from the big blind.

The flop came 6♦ 9♣ 2♣ and action checked around to Wang who bet 10,000. Sun called, Leng check-raised to 28,000 and both of his opponents folded.

Chung Lam Allan Kong opened to 5,000 from the button and Qi Sun three-bet to 16,500 from the small blind. Kong made the call.

The flop came A♠ 5♦ Q♦ and Sun checked. Kong bet 9,500 and Sun check-raised to 28,500. Kong shoved for 86,000 and Sun burned through two time banks before calling with a covering stack.

Qi Sun: A♣ K♥

Kong was ahead with top two pair but the K♣ 4♣ runout gave Sun a higher two pair to send Kong to the rail in brutal fashion and win the pot.

Qi Sun opened to 5,000 from the cutoff and Bo Jin defended from the big blind.

The flop came A♣ J♥ 9♥ and Jin check-called a 10,000 bet from Sun.

Jin shoved for 11,500 on the 7♦ turn and Sun snap-called with a covering stack.

Qi Sun: A♦ T♣

Jin was ahead with two pair but the 8♠ river gave Sun a straight to eliminate Jin and win the pot.

A player on the button opened to 4,000, Nicholas Michael Ng Yi Wen shoved from the small blind with a covering stack, Qi Sun called from the big blind with his stack of 59,500 and the player on the button folded.

Sun’s pocket nines held up on the A♦ A♠ K♥ T♥ 5♠ runout and he secured a full double up while Wen was left short-stacked.

With two players seeing a board of 2♦ 9♠ Q♦ 9♥ 4♥ and 26,200 in the middle Changmin Zhu checked from the small blind and Qi Sun bet 18,000 from the big blind. Zhu called.

Sun only had king-high with K♦ T♠ while Zhu showed Q♥ J♣ for two pair to win the pot.

In a preflop confrontation Yang Zhang was all in from the button and up against Qi Sun who covered him from the cutoff.

Sun’s pocket nines held up on the 3♣ 2♣ 7♣ K♣ Q♠ runout and he won the pot while Zhang was sent to the rail.

Chin Yu Lim opened to 2,500 from the button, Qi Sun three-bet to 7,900 from the big blind, Lim four-bet to 40,500 and Sun folded.

In a preflop confrontation Qi Sun was all in for 17,600 from the hijack and up against Bin Leng who had him covered from the cutoff.

Bin Leng: 8♦ 8♣

The T♠ 3♥ 3♠ 2♠ A♠ runout gave Sun two pair, aces and threes to double through Leng.

With two players seeing a board of K♥ 6♦ K♦ 4♥ and 4,900 in the middle Qi sun checked from the small blind and Bin Leng bet 2,800 from the big blind. Sun check-raised to 7,300 and Leng called.

Sun bet 10,500 on the 2♥ river and Leng called again. Sun showed two pair, kings and sixes with 6♥ 5♣ but Leng had a higher kicker with 7♣ 6♣ to win the pot.

Jie Chen opened to 900 from under the gun, Qi Sun called from early position and a player in the big blind called.

All three players checked the J♠ 5♥ Q♠ flop leading to the 3♣ turn. The big blind checked, Chen bet 1,200, Sun called and the big blind folded.

On the 9♥ river Chen bet 4,500 and Sun called. Chen had a pair with 6♦ 5♦ but Sun had a higher pair with 9♦ 8♣ to win the pot.
