The action was picked up on the turn with roughly 260,000 chips in the middle and the board showing J♠ T♣ 9♠ 2♠ when Zengxiang Chen led out for 324,000 from the big blind. Dong Chen called off his remaining 240,000, putting his tournament life at risk.
Dong Chen: K♠ J♦
Zengxiang Chen: A♦ J♥
Both players had paired their jacks on the flop, but Zengxiang Chen held the stronger kicker. Dong Chen, however, still had plenty of outs with a flush draw in play.
The river brought the K♥, improving Dong Chen to two pair and keeping his tournament hopes alive, while leaving Zengxiang Chen short-stacked.
A few hands later, Zengxiang Chen limped in on the button and Martin Sedlak checked from the big blind.
Both players checked the K♠ 8♣ 5♣ flop to see the 7♣ turn, where Sedlak led for 75,000. Chen called.
When the A♣ completed the board, Sedlak fired 400,000, sending Chen deep into the tank. After some thought, Chen made the call for his remaining 390,000.
Sedlak revealed K♣ Q♦ for top pair on the flop, cracking Chen’s J♣ J♦. With that, Chen’s run came to an end.
