William Teoh Steamrolls to Victory in PHP 600,000 APT Super High Roller for PHP 9,785,100 (~$166,350)

William Teoh has been crowned the champion in the PHP 600,000 APT Super High Roller and bagged up a top prize of PHP 9,785,100 (~$166,350) after a short heads-up duel with John Matsuda, who had no choice but to settle for second together with a nice payday of PHP 7,079,000 (~$120,340).

Teoh navigated his way to the trophy through 59 entries that comprised 42 unique entries, which generated a prize pool of PHP 32,621,100 (~$ 554,560). The Malaysian player started the day as the chip leader, and continued his momentum to life the first flagship trophy event of the series, eliminating four players on the final table.

APT Super High Roller Final Table Results

After sixteen 40-minute levels yesterday, just twelve players returned for Day 2, and it was Natural8 Ambassador Nevan Chang who fell short of the final table. Chang got it in with ace-ten, which was no match for Matsuda’s ace-jack on a dry board.

However, Chang might not be the one having the most regret in mind as the last player to leave empty-handed in ninth was Thomas Ward, whose pocket kings were brutally cracked by the eventual champion's pocket tens when Teoh turned a set, bursting the bubble and guaranteeing the remaining eight players a slice of the prize pool.

The first bustout in the money happened just two hands after Ward's departure, when Toan Truong went all in with his ace-six and encountered the pocket sixes of Paulius Plausinaitis. A dry board came just to announce it time for Truong to head to the payout desk for PHP 1,305,000 (~$22,185).

The pace of elimination slowed down until Jordan Westmorland elected to shove with an ace on hand. He was in the lead when his opponent showed king-eight against his ace-eight. But the bad news came quickly as the dealer delivered a king on the flop to seal Westmorland’s elimination in seventh.

Joonhee 'Steve' Yea

Joonhee Yea joined the rail soon after. His pocket threes encountered the ace-nine from Teoh, whose momentum never stalled as he paired a nine on the flop, making Yea’s journey stop in sixth, together with PHP 2,088,000 (~$35,495).

Alexander Lynskey was hoping for a double when he shoved with his Big Slick, but found himself in a bad situation by the river where his opponent, Teoh backdoored two pair with queen-jack, leaving Lynskey to exit in fifth and bag up a prize of PHP 2,675,000 (~$45,475).

Three hands later, it was Plausinaitis heading to cash out his prize next as he failed to best Matsuda’s pocket queens with jack-nine suited, which ended his run in fourth for PHP 3,458,000 (~$58,790).

When running into Teoh, Vincent Huang made the wrong decision to believe that his Snowmen could hold against the Malaysian players’ ace-nine. The board proved its favor again and gave Teoh an ace on the turn, which meant Huang finished third and banked PHP 4,567,000 (~$77,640) for his efforts.

Teoh held a towering ten-to-one chip lead over Matsuda when heads-up play began, and despite the Japanese player managing to double up with ace-three against ace-king, his hopes of a comeback were shot down when he jammed with ace-eight and ran into the pocket kings of Teoh. No help from the board meant Matsuda was the runner-up, and Teoh got to hoist the trophy.

Congratulations to Teoh on an excellent performance to grab his third lion trophy in APT Events. What a way to do it!

From the cut-off Taiwanese Pro Nevan Chang opened with his 19 big-blinds and it folded around to John Matsuda in the big-blind who decided to put Chang all-in, covering him by a handful of big blinds. Chang seemingly was in his tough spot, but eventually decided to risk his tournament life at the bubble of the final table.

Teoh Serves River Pressure

While other players went to the feature table checking the who would be the last elimination to go into the final table, William Teoh was in the hand against Vincent Huang.

Teoh opened the small blind to 100,000 and Huang defended from the big blind.

Both saw the flop roll off 8♦ A♣ K♦ , and Teoh bet 55,000. Teoh called to see the A♦ turn, where the action went check-check.

A 6♠ landed on the river, prompting a huge bet of 400,000 from Teoh, which gave Huang a tough decision. Eventually, Huang opted to muck his hand.

Paulius Plausinaitis limped in from the small blind and William Teoh defended from the small blind.

Plausinaitis checked over on the flop of 4♥ 9♠ 6♠ , and Teoh bet 65,000. Plausinaitis called to see the 3♥ turn, where Plausinaitis check-called again after Teoh fired out 125,000.

The T♦ dropped on the river, Plausinaitis checked the action to Teoh. Teoh sent again bet of 125,000, forcing Plausinaitis throw his cards back to the dealer. Before returning the cards, Teoh was friendly enough to show his two pair with T♠ 9♥ .

Lynskey checked once more the K♦ turn, which led Teoh to put out a 125,000 bet. The Aussie called and both players saw the J♦ on the river. However, this street went again without any action and to the showdown they went.

On the flop of A♥ A♦ 5♣, Mao bet 50,000 and Huang made the call to see the Q♣ turn, where the action went check-check.

A K♥ dropped on the river, and Mao bet 35,000. However, Huang raised to 175,000 this time, forcing Mao tossed his cards into the muck.

Westmorland Serves Elimination to Neilson

Daniel Neilson opened the hijack to 60,000 only to receive a three-bet to 180,000 from Jordan Westmoreland on the button. Neilson dropped in a call.

Both saw a flop of T♥ 8♦ Q♥ , and Neilson checked the action to Westmorland, who then fired out 125,000. However, this didn’t deter Neilson from shoving all in. After few seconds, Westmorland made the call to put his opponent at risk.

APT Super High Roller - Final Day

Good morning from thrilling APT Manila.

After a competitive Day 1, the APT Super High Roller returns for its second and final day with twelve players remaining in the field.

Out of 59 entries (42 unique), Malaysia’s William Teoh leads the pack with over three million chips (3,550,000), holding a commanding lead of more than double the next closest stack - Vincent Huang (1,770,000).

Over half of the survivors accumulated stacks of over one million yesterday. Among them are 2012 APT Manila Deepstack Turbo & 2019 APT Ho Chi Minh High Roller champion Joonhee Yea (1,165,000), and 2024 APT Taipei Hyper Turbo - High Roller champion Natural8 Ambassador Nevan Chang (1,070,000), who was also crowned the champion in the Turbo High Roller event on the first day of this series. Both are in pursuit of another APT title.

The prestigious pewter lion trophy awaits the winner as does a payday of PHP 9,785,100 (~$166,350).
